Impact Soundworks has released BASS SCULPTOR, a native VST/AU/AAX plugin designed to get your bass in shape! Whether it’s fattening up weak drums, smoothing out a bass guitar recording, cleaning up mud, or tightening up a whole mix, this plugin gives you all the essential tools for managing low end in one convenient interface.

The plugin features four distinct sound modules working in harmony: a subharmonic generator, a stereo imager, a surgical EQ with adjustable band & highpass filter, and a bass compressor. Any component can be quickly toggled on and off, and each has just the right amount of tweakability: enough to shape your sound, without being overwhelming.

Plus, with clean, precise, and innovative DSP by Jatin Chowdhury, Bass Sculptor does exactly what it says in the name without stressing your CPU.

No matter what kind of music you create, Bass Sculptor and its versatile set of factory presets will help deliver an even cleaner, smoother, and all-around better final mix.

Four Bass Processors
  • Subharmonic generator: True synthesis of sub-frequencies based on the input signal; not just a simple pitch-shifter or octaver
  • Bass Imager: Collapses low frequencies to mono using one of three processing modes, ideal for making club-friendly mixes
  • Bass EQ & Filter: Surgical high-pass and single-band EQ with both minimal and linear-phase modes
  • Bass Compressor: Highly-responsive compression of bass frequencies at up to 10:1 ratio

My first impression was that this was aimed strictly at the EDM crowd. But taking a closer look reveals some nice time-saving features that make it an interesting mixing tool for just about any genre. It has a very clean UI and a simple authorization process. The price also seems reasonable. Unfortunately, I don't see a demo for download. I'd love to hear about anybody's experience with it. Thanks for the heads-up zircon :tu:

How is a bass mixing tool uniquely aimed at EDM ?

I've been learning different production techniques from friends that specialize in Psytrance and other types of bass-heavy dance music. With that in mind, I can see the potential for using Bass Sculptor to dial in the crucial balance between kick drum and synth bass.

It has useful features such as converting the bass to mono for proper translation on PA or club systems. The Subharmonic generator, Bass imager with EQ and compression all-in-one just seems like a handy tool for those that are mixing complex or busy electronic mixes.

After a look at the manual, I can see that it would be right at home when I'm mixing guitars and drums as well. Like I said, it was just a first impression. I imagine this would be great for Dubstep and Drum & Bass producers, too.

Are the top knobs oval for some reason

Nope, that was fixed before the release. Somehow an old screenshot was used here. Heheh.

the sub bass itself alone behaves quite like an octaver as far as I can judge...
