I think that an "Audio Damage freeware plug-ins only" round would be highly interesting. They pretty much have everything in their arsenal.

Maybe allow the use of DAW EQ and a bit more flexibility on the mastering chain but mastering with Rough Rider would be a lot (destructive) fun!

But yeah there is also the Mac problem :(.

Hi all,
Please have a look at Cardinal.
Cardinal is a free and open-source virtual modular synthesizer plugin, available as JACK standalone and LV2, VST2 and VST3 audio plugin for FreeBSD, Linux, macOS and Windows.
It is based on the popular VCV Rack but with a focus on being a fully self-contained plugin version.
[edit] to be clear, this means that cardinal doesn't load external modules but all modules are compiled in.

Have a look at the readme for extensive info on the capabilities and variants of the plugin

Everyone likes pictures, so here are some screenies.
Yes we have dark mode.

Another funny idea for a synth would be a car manufacturer's audio tool also discussed here.

Edit: Belay that. It's either buggy or crappy. The natural noises are not routed through the VCA, so you can only make them shut up by turning down their respective volume. But you can't play them.

Looks pretty interesting, although we had another fork of Rack (VeeSeeVST) in OSC not too long ago. That one was a pretty huge resource hog (at least on my ancient machine). How does Cardinal compare?

What I would like even better would be a download link. I couldn't find it on the github page. And I'm not inclined to build myself. A pointer would be nice.

Looks like it's sample-based, though.

It has samples besides a regular oscillator, but those are hardcoded, so level playing ground.

Yeah, it seems a bit soon for a VCV variant round. I haven't tried it but I would be quite surprised if it isn't comparably heavyweight simply due to the nature of its execution model.

Ah, okay, thanks. It was hidden at the side. I was searching at the top, in the text and pretty much everywhere else.

Yeah sorry, I'm kinda used the the github page so I forgot to check/add the release page.

The main point and difference with cardinal is, that's it's a self contained plugin. It doesn't load rack modules, all provided modules are already in the plugin.
You can load external vst/lv2 plugins but that would probably defeat the point of the osc.
Anyway, I know there was a vcv challenge before but I just wanted to bring attention to this project.

I have no thoughts about KIA, let other enthusiasts test it. Students of Technische Universität Berlin at least knew what they wanted)
I played a little with CardinalSynth, made a simple synthesizer, I like everything so far! Indeed, it's like VeeSeeVST (the number of modules is comparable), only modern, multiplatform and promises to continue to be updated and supplemented with modules. This is about how I wanted to see VCV VST. Okay, it's not 2000+ modules, but more than any hardware and most software rack synthesizers can give you. It also has its own internal host for plugins, which of course is fantastic! Next thing also seems like a trifle, but create your own set with a bunch of flashing lights, turn on dark mode with maximum dimming and enjoy fantastic illumination! I could probably watch and listen to it for hours, maybe through this I will even fall in love with generative music!)
In general, I would like to see Cardinal in OSC, if not in the near future, then at least this year. As I understand it, they have several more important updates in their plans that were not ready for release.
Oh, yes, the most important thing: it looks like there are no presets here and I haven't delved into the building myself, so I can't say anything about performance yet ...
And if someone has already gone further than me, tell me if the current version of Cardinal has polyphony in normal (or in any) form?

Except Cardinal runs entirely in the Host thread. (no multi-threading or separate midi threads etc.)

It's better/easier to make multiple smaller patches than to have one giant one with your entire project in it.

At least that's how I've been mostly using it, to create individual smaller instrument patches and reuse them across projects.

Thanks anyway, Yadrichik! :tu: But you're a little late with the news) Join Discord OSC to be aware of everything earlier (including the new synthesizer of the month  ). If KVR is the "office" of One Synth Challenge, where everybody would "work and discussing work", Discord is as apartments of OSC where all gather after work to chat about anything! :D
P. S. Toneboosters V3 includes only FX plugins, unlike Audio Damage, which also released a Legacy Collection and it has some interesting synths! Which we have also already talked about...
