I just never thought of trying my tracks (mainly piano) as a one instance. You made me think again, and I could see how I could route the "bass" and other tracks to the piano melody track, and it does sound quite good (but without perc, of course!!!). Careful automated EQ could realise the different instruments along the track too. I will remember this, listen carefully to other 1 instance tracks, and consider this for future OSC's - just really never crossed my mind to try it ...

Sorry it it seemed to imply your track was easy to do ... on the contrary!

 I've been teasing you, Rob!
Yeah, any synth that offers key tracking has the potential to work well as a single instance. Biggest trouble with this one, though, is that you cannot automate modulation or have inverted modulation (except for the almost ridiculous velocity inversion??? Why...well...that's one of the rarest things one would want inverted, really). Sooooooooo...this really makes me want to try this with an even more adequate synth for such a thing. It's a beautiful challenge itself to try and make one wholesome instrument out of a synth, which would hold up across all octaves. In a way, my Lord of the Springs could possibly be incredible for that, too, by its very nature...hmmm.
Luckily I yet haven't chosen to write a reverb plugin called "Tail of Legend"!   (jeeeez, had to think about this one this morning and didn't expect to find a properly ridiculous segue to squeeze it in. Oh, no...no, no, I should stop!) :ud: (...probably should start a brand called "InNuendo" or so... :violin:

Hi all, sorry to say I won't be in it this month, I got distracted doing other things, which is probably a good indication of what I really thought of this synth, which is meh. It ended up being too fugly for me. maybe next month! I will try to find time to vote in any case.

Taron: Could you kindly share the cool Synister (xml) patch for the piano melody heard at the very beginning of the track? I don't own the full version of MuLabs so I cannot open your shared project file...

TIA

Alright, I'm dong this:

https://soundcloud.com/taronium/taron-r ... al_sharing

#instances: 1
DAW: MuLab (www.mutools.com)
DAW FX: 4Band EQ, Vintage Echo 1
FX: Valhalla Supermassive, Auburn Sounds Panagement 2 (free), Dimension Expander, OTT, Loudmax

Just for fun, I've attached the MuProject for those, who have MuLab and enough curiosity to look at the slighty nutty fx automation of it :hihi: ...and my ignorant attempt at a classical appearing composition.

Why 1 instance? Well...I've done a bunch of tracks the common way, finding that drums are actually pretty great with Synister, but when it comes to melodic instruments, I was bothered how narrow the spectrum felt for their sound. It's like a asking Jim Carrey to replace an entire cast by making different faces. Thus I figured, why not just let him be one guy... and there it is!
I've always wanted to try and use a synth like a single instrument that could hold a tune, like a piano, guitar or whatever can accompany itself. A wonderful experiment to me and I've had a total blast! :hyper:

For melodic work as a 1 instance track, this is the key - no pun intended!

(Guess I've got too many automation lanes for the free version?!)

hehe Mr.T. - 'supppose I could re-do my track with your piano :D But no, i'll leave it as is!

I just could not get a decent attack and piano string "ring" and "growl" in the lower frequencies - the osc's just did not behave properly at the low ends! I did use 2 layers, but could not get it to do quite what I wanted, so left it so the low end is more EP than Upright!

And yes ... what on earth would you do with -ve velocity?

... enough ... fab track btw!

You guys keep calling it a "piano"?! ...fine, why not!? But it's probably a bit closer to other plucked instruments. Definitely a zither type (such as piano, apparently). In fact, it was inspired by a lute video I stumbled across on youtube, playing some J.S.Bach, but I didn't dare try to touch Bach, hahaha. It's why I called it "Riverlein", too... sort of a linguistic joke of sorts. German speakers might catch it?! :hihi:

Thank you Taron!

IV! wrote: Mon Feb 28, 2022 9:51 am That's why I love OSC - the discussion in the first days of the month about how useless and unfinished the synthesizer is, and the sea of just incredible tracks for it at the end of the month!
I'm surprised about all the different sounds and styles different OSC artists got out of this synth. I wasn't expecting much but I feel like everyone delivered.

Here is my entry for this round
I began this the first day when the challenge post appeared, i was testing with the few presets that includes and i liked the "pianomio preset" and that was the inspiration for the track.
Later i started to made new sounds and left the project in standby
In the beginning my impression was the synth was so raw with a lot of aliasing and problems with the levels.
During the month i was very lazy until i realize that this month ends on the 28th and I had less time to develop that first idea saved.
Then I took the synth on deep and my concept changed and i made better and wider sounds.
The conclusion is that now i like the synth. I like the way to mix the oscilators with a dedicated panning control. I like the reverse delay. The filters are different but i think that i've taken advantage of them.
Lot of fun making the drums and combining them with the basses.
I have to read all the posts but i think the general impression about this synth is the same like me.

Here's the track. It's attempt to make a relaxed house track with an euphoric moment. Nothing special but I hope you like the vibe.

My Synister track
https://soundcloud.com/zarf/zarf-alast

Approx 60 instances of Synister. Sounds by looking for sweet spots and composing around that, for what it's worth :D

Eq on every track
Compressor on most tracks
Multiband compressor, glue compressor, limiter on master
All delays from the synth fx

Good luck everyone :tu:

ps Note dynamic range - it gets louder! Be aware :o
(er, and also, didn't do a great job of making it loud enough, no time, sorry!)

Once upon a time in the north, a wizard spoke a spell. Wrong ! Not only did it invoke the Evil One, but also the Evil Zero. Too late ! All got noisy as hell. With people aliasing all over the place, hardly knowing who they were anymore, or where. It got so bad that Sun could no longer bear to look upon the north and took off. That is how winter came to be.
