Just wondering if their old plugins keep up nowadays. Mostly compressor and filterbank. I tend to reach out for the comp when its for simple tasks, since its so easy going, and pretty versatile. Same goes for its filters and eqs. They get the job done pretty well in my ears.
And analog channels are great.

What's your opinion on them after all those years, if anybody actually have them still in use?

McDSP's Futzbox was one of the very first plugins I ever purchased, and I still use it regularly even as I've acquired other very good similar options (like AudioThing's Speakers). But for some reason I've never bought another McDSP plugin, however, as there always seemed to be other options that I personally preferred or was better suited to what I was looking for at that moment.

Still using analog channel and filterbank in 2022. I've searched all over and haven't found a solid FB202 alternative yet.

it took some years before i got ec-300 and i like the sound of it.

i have 6050 which is ok but the shenanigans around the upgrade price to 6060 made that purchase difficult to justify, particularly when i have a lot of other options kicking around. the stuff is broadly good. it's just less of a difference compared to the competition than used to be the case.

about all i use now is futzbox and even that is rarely

6050 / 6060. I think of them as 0 CPU strips, so it's my go-to to apply liberally across the session. I've also invested the time to get comfortable with many of the effects, so there's the added investment/value of my understanding and relationship with it. The compressor you know is worth more than the compressor sitting in storage.

BTW, I "upgraded" to 6060 for $50. I'm sure that promo will come back. There are enough new effects and features in the bundle to justify a $50 price tag. I think it's 5 new misc effects (not comps or eqs), plus the feed direction feature for comps that provide a new range of texture.

I've demoed them all on windows but I get really bad spikes especially in Ableton Live. I loved the "retro pack" incidentally (am a sucker for great sounding, low cpu, easy to dial in, no fuss processors like these) and would have purchased but the windows support seems terrible (the installer for example doesn't even let you choose a custom install location on windows and finding the default location is a pain). The channel strips were also great.

If they update their windows support with the next plugin version I would jump in. The hardware analogue plugin hybrid thing they do looks incredible btw and I think they have ditched software support in order to focus on that unfortunately.

Everyday, tons of them. Great coding, useful, easy.

Yeah I use them too. They. Just. Work. and sound pretty good. NR800 is a pretty good noise reducer as well. I hate that they released 6050 and then 6060 - I ended up having to pay way more than I wanted because of this botched release. As penance, I no longer buy McDSP but what I have of theirs I consider solid tried-and true but middle-of the-road in terms of sonic character (they are work in a "safe" range, not extreme).

The Windows installers suck. These are mainly Mac plugins.

I last used McDSP plugins around the year 2000 in various studios at the time. I didn't own them at the time, the studio did.

I hadn't used McDSP plugins for 22 years, until today, when I downloaded EC-300.

It looks to be a nice and easy to use delay and I like the GUI and I like that it can be resized to make large.

Do they still only have 1 activation on iLok on their paid products? I mean everyone else has gone 2 at least.

I just got the Echo license and the first thing noticed, only 1 license. Second thing, read somewhere it's Mac only. lol.

That's not how you get me as customer.

Edit: apparently it's now on Windows too? But anyway not worth the hassle. I will not carry my Ilok from home to studio and back everyday.

yes

I've tried a lot of plugins from them, and never fell in love with any. The installers are stupid, the plugins names are stupid (do you really remember the names ? sound like licence plates to me), the plugins sound basic to me, and the insanely low prices they sometimes propose make me feel they're desperately looking for clients. That's not for me. Cool for some of you if you like them.

Their Echo plugin is free now. Worth a try, probably.
