Firstly, I am impressed with Efx FRAGMENTS.
My Arturia offers
Crossgrade to FX Collection 2 $120
Crossgrade to Efx FRAGMENTS $50
I read “Save by purchasing Efx FRAGMENTS as a standalone effect OR bundled with FX Collection 2." Does this mean that Fragments is bundled with the with FX Collection 2. I do not see this mentioned elsewhere. For $120 I get the Efx Fragments "bundled with FX Collection 2". Do I really need all the extra plugins included in the FX Collection 2?
I see Fragments “Works in VST, AAX, Audio Unit”. And as a "standalone"?
Is Fragments made using JUCE? I ask to see if it is multi-touch capable.

i do not see it installed as standalone in my applications folder (mac that is)
it's an effect, isn't it?
arturias standalones are only synths as far as i can see...

My upgrade price from FX2 to Fragments was $29. Fragments is well worth picking up if you can get it at a decent price, the best granular effect I've tried.

I ended up buying Fragments just after my stream, it was 50 bucks for me, didn't check how much the fx pack would be (if it would have been 120 I would have likely bought that, but it's currently 120, so idk don't want to pay twice?)
absolutely love Fragments, hopefully the "Efx" prefix means there is more in this line to come
for those comparing to portal or silo, I own all 3 now, and fragments seems to combine a bit of both
do you need 3 granular effects? no... at least, if you do need 3 of them, you're probably not asking this question
they all do things a bit different, silo seems to have the most "range" being able to create tonal streams of grains
portal has some incredible feedback, but lacks grain shapes
portal still sounds "the best" out of the 3, kind of a loaded thing for me to say, but portal does have a polish to it
where fragments kinda has a lot of bugs, not going to lie, it's not perfect
fragments has some different grain shapes compared to silo
fragments also does some beat repeater type stuff, adds a sequencer and 1 more lfo, AND an envelope follower, so when it comes to modulation, it has portal beat
there's a lot I could say about these, I am impressed with fragments though, new favorite toy
I will warn anyone using granular effects, freeze or bounce your audio as soon as you get something you like
all granular effects are inherently volatile, one buffer change, or feedback variation can extremely alter your sound
I recommend using these tools the way you might use a pedal or hardware noise maker: record the output, and chop the samples
this one gets a huge thumbs up from me though

sounds really nice, probably my favourite granular effect, and got it for 29
i also wish i hadnt bought portal now
edit - just tried portal out again and its also great but dont need both, portal can set the pitch randomisation to chords as well as scales though which is useful, would be good if arturia had that or even let you choose custom sets of notes

Dear all,
I allow myself jumping into this thread. I am the product manager behind Efx FRAGMENT.
I just wanted to thank you all for the positive feedback regarding the plugin!
Do not hesitate to ask me questions if you have any; I will be happy to answer you.
Here's a screenshot of the scale menu opened in the plugin.

Once a scale is set, the grains will be quantized according to it whether you change the value of the pitch knob or you add random pitch.

You can also set scales/chords in FRAGMENTS. Simply click on the drop-down menu underneath the "pitch" knob, and you'll be able to chose between 14 different ones.j wazza wrote: Wed Mar 02, 2022 10:19 am edit - just tried portal out again and its also great but dont need both, portal can set the pitch randomisation to chords as well as scales though which is useful, would be good if arturia had that or even let you choose custom sets of notes

thats what i was talking about, it has octaves, fourths, fifths and scales but i think you cant make it play a chord like just the 3 notes of minor triad, or a major 7th etc,FrancoisB_Arturia wrote: Wed Mar 02, 2022 1:34 pm You can also set scales/chords in FRAGMENTS. i meant that i wish it could do this, play chords instead of just playing the whole minor or major scale
i also wish i could choose custom notes to make my own chords/scales with it
i dont know of a grain effect that can do that with custom notes so it would set fragments apart from all the others as there are so many

That would actually be really great.j wazza wrote: Wed Mar 02, 2022 1:39 pmthats what i was talking about, it has octaves, fourths, fifths and scales but i think you cant make it play a chord like just the 3 notes of minor triad, or a major 7th etc,FrancoisB_Arturia wrote: Wed Mar 02, 2022 1:34 pm You can also set scales/chords in FRAGMENTS. yeah, another idea that would be cool is if it could pitch shift stuff into the harmonic series and you could choose the number of harmonics it makeszerocrossing wrote: Wed Mar 02, 2022 2:58 pmThat would actually be really great.j wazza wrote: Wed Mar 02, 2022 1:39 pm i meant that i wish it could play chords instead of just playing the whole minor or major scale

The easiest way to achieve this in a good controllable way, is to let it listen to incoming MPE notes and support MTS for microtonal scales… (to get the precise overtone series…)

i think granular pitch shifting just plays back the grains at a different speed so it could just play them 3x faster etc, not fully sure thoughTj Shredder wrote: Wed Mar 02, 2022 4:17 pm The easiest way to achieve this in a good controllable way, is to let it listen to incoming MPE notes and support MTS for microtonal scales… (to get the precise overtone series…)
