A form factor like a big tablet but housing a full-spec computer and OS. Surface Pro is the obvious example.

That's annoying because it's still full price here in Australia. It's an absolute steal at $999! That said, I just found a used one on eBay for Au$1957. I've sent an offer of $Au1800, which is about 1300USD. It comes with a 1TB SSD and MX450 graphics so that's a decent price. I may buy it even if he rejects my offer.
EDIT: He accepted my offer so I just bought it!! Exciting times!

If you got both 32gb and 1tb, then thats pretty good. It would take me awhile to get that deal, and the best deal i could get here would probably beat you by $50 at most, and for used also.

Believe it or not, I only paid around US$800 for the UX481. It has a tiny dent in the lid, where the previous owner dropped his phone on it, but the way he photographed it made it look really bad so no-one else bid on it. He lived near me so I went around to look at it before I paid him, so it was pretty risk-free. So I won't be surprised if I make a bit of money on it. And I still have the gaming laptop it replaced, so between the two of them I will more than cover the cost of the new one.Sebastiantheseeker wrote: Fri Mar 11, 2022 2:42 amAlso you should get a good price for your ux481 being that you are overseas.
Both machines - UX481 and UX482 - have 1TB SSDs, 16GB of RAM and nVidia graphics. It seems to be the only spec they sell here in Australia. The new one should arrive in a day or two and I've got a new 1TB microSD card on the way, too. The current one has a 512GB card that I use as a data drive, which is fast enough for loading songs and streaming audio, although I've set all my caches to be on the SSD.

I don't understand what tablets are for. I've owned a couple and one was small enough to fit in a pocket and good enough to run After Effects and 3DS Max in a pinch, so I got some use from that. The other one looks very pretty but is basically useless.

Lol android tablets are useless, but iPads are amazing... I’m surprised you are not aware. Here are my tracks.BONES wrote: Tue Mar 15, 2022 6:33 am I don't understand what tablets are for. Here is my latest track... the vocals are samples... but most of the rest is my iPad, even mixed and mastered on one.

Here is a demo showing off an iPad DAW (cubase) and an iPad host (AUM.) aum is like a vst host like Apple main stage or gig performer but for apps instead of vsts. (Apps are kind of like vsts.)

Here is my favorite and most used app. Nothing like it is available on a pc/Mac: it’s all through my recordings:

This app is also a midi controller, so is the reason I run both computer and iPad. I use the touchscreen iPad a pp to control the pc/mac synths. I have 1000+ apps on iPad and I use them while on the subway for hours in NYC.
iPad is now my main instrument. I also play bass, percussion, sing etc. because of my fondness for the iPad, this is why I Long for a laptop with a touchscreen in the first place.
I am actually quite new to using pc/Mac for production... well I mean I dabbled in it years ago but not seriously. There are things you can do on a pc/Mac that aren’t available on an iPad, but also vice versa.

Neither are a guarantee for good performance.
Rather check out benchmarks.
