Do i need separate hardware instruments to use this? I don't see any instruments or audio outputs.

No you could sequence instruments in your computer if you wanted. Also, it doesn't make sound, it drives things that make sound.3lu5iv3 wrote: Fri Mar 04, 2022 3:24 am Do i need separate hardware instruments to use this? I don't see any instruments or audio outputs.

Thanks for posting the walkthrough video. I'm a hw sequencer nerd by the highest level and I'm really interested in this one.UncleAge wrote: Fri Mar 04, 2022 3:49 amNo you could sequence instruments in your computer if you wanted. I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to be a beta tester for the Squarp Hapax.
I've watched it developments, and got a really nice feeling for the Hapax, and yes I love it !
In this video, I go through what it can do and how Ive been using it.
of course, even though its an hour long (!) , with such a complex beast, some things are covered briefly ... If you would like to see more about certain features, leave a comment on the video.
Ive also got a specific eurorack/hapax video in the works - let me know in the video comments, if there is something particular you want to see.
similarly, if you'd like a 'comparison' of Hapax/Hermod/Pyramid .. again pop it in the comments.
(Im thinking primarily, the difference in 'approach'... not feature X is in pyramid etc)

Thank you for taking the time!
I haven't watched any of the videos yet - but I will. I owned a mk1 of the Pyramid when it first was released - and to tell you the truth, I didn't gel with it at all. I felt the UI was quite "Elektron"-ish. Hold-shift to get to this setting, press-click to get to that place etc. Things that are easy when you are dedicated to the unit - but very confusing for a new user. That was eventually what made me sell the unit and never look back.
Another thing that really bothered me with the Pyramid was if you made a recording and you played a note too early so it got placed at the end of a pattern rather than in the beginning - you had to zoom in and try to figure out which note was represented on the 2x8 pads. I assume this has become much clearer now with more and longer rows of pads?

Then you should consider a cirklon , imho it's the best sequencer ever made and incredibly deepDrGonzo wrote: Fri Mar 04, 2022 5:44 amI'm a hw sequencer nerd by the highest levelUncleAge wrote: Fri Mar 04, 2022 3:49 amNo you could sequence instruments in your computer if you wanted. The aux events are trully unique
Sure , it's pretty expensive and a loong waiting list but it's totally worth it

Ahh... the mightly Cirklon. I owned one actually about one year ago. Incredibly deep and clever but didn't create a lasting connection with my brain. I think it was the different pattern modes that threw me off. But if one would go all in on it I am sure anyone could master it. Curious what they will do for the upcoming v2.gentleclockdivider wrote: Fri Mar 04, 2022 5:21 pmThen you should consider a cirklon , imho it's the best sequencer ever made and incredibly deepDrGonzo wrote: Fri Mar 04, 2022 5:44 amI'm a hw sequencer nerd by the highest levelUncleAge wrote: Fri Mar 04, 2022 3:49 amNo you could sequence instruments in your computer if you wanted. -faster cpu
- high res colour touch screen ,altough no practical uses are yet implemented for the touch screen besides some demo stuff
- host out port which lets you connect and additional 16 port midi expander (
like the miditech midiface )for an additional 256 midi channels
Which brings the cirklon to a whopping 432 midi channels !!
Colin is now hard at work to implement midi v2

Really? Cool! So the OS is still pretty much the same as before?

I guess , since I only have the cirklon since september so can't really comment on anything prior to that date .DrGonzo wrote: Fri Mar 04, 2022 8:25 pm Really? Cool! So the OS is still pretty much the same as before?

Some new features are added like muting lanes in a ck pattern etc..
I really fly on this thing , it's so intuitive yet deep if you want it to .
Great to have so many sequencer choices these days .

can you show us how to use Hapax with a laptop/desktop?

Wow - that's the best when you have a piece of equipment that just works with you and the way you think.gentleclockdivider wrote: Fri Mar 04, 2022 10:45 pm I really fly on this thing , it's so intuitive yet deep if you want it to .

It's so cool that hardware sequencers have come into fashion once again.
I'm also quite interested in the new Retrokits "pocket calculator"-ish sequencer
But the new Squarp - yeah, not cheap but looks to be a complete solution with enough tracks/patterns and space for anything you want.
Gotta try them all

@3lu5iv3 , actually works really well, since is got both USB host and device midi !
so either use with computer and a midi keyboard/controller, or alone...
I've had a lot of fun with it with both Bitwig and VCVRack... as its just really nice to have 'hands-on' sequencing.
going to the other extreme
here's my next video.... connecting to modular..
what can it add to a modular environment? how's it work ?
