I just wish the cr8 had a sample chopping function. That would have made it a good deal for me.

The integration with Cosmos (which looks like a free Sononym in many respects) looks cool. I must admit I have always avoided Waves stuff, even though I’ve been given several freebies, because I don’t like the sound of having to deal with a Waveshell or WUP but can I just install this without needing to install other Waves plugins or the wave shell? I don’t understand the WUP thing really

As far as I can tell the WUP thing doesn't ever have to be used unless for some reason an OS update makes the plugin unusable. Hasn't happened so far for me on windows, I run a 3 year old version of FlowMotion and some that are much older again with no troubles. I've never bought a WUP upgrade. The waveshell thing is required but I dont see other waves plugins listed in my DAW as demos or whatever.
