I do it just for fun.
And before any of the resident piss-taking crew arrives (vurt, cypher, spaceman, ttoz etc) i have actually finished a few tunes over the years.
Just not many
I figure one day when i have enough time/mney i might be able to get some actual talented people together and make something worthwhile!!

Because there were so many "can't be missed" group buys and all those freebies everyone praises leaving me with all these soft synths and effects in my hard disk and I just have to do something with them

my main motivation in making music is to HAVE FUN!!
and it's also one of the only things that interests me that much ..... with listening to music
now i got more into how synths work and some others stuff (still many things to learn), it's more like expressing some feelings in music ( i make elctronic music with no lyrics).

There are several reasons I need to make music:
1. There's simply an inner urge to create and play music. Since my first piano lesson at the age of eight I started composing. And yes: I'm not the kind of person who is good at playing from sheet music.
2. I like to create, instead of passive consuming or imitating.
3. I want to make the music in my head more concrete and also accessible to others.
4. I can express so much more by music (and words) than with words alone, even though I can express myself in words quite well.
5. When composing, I used to be in a state of flow (which is great).
6. I know I have a talent to create music, at least compared to most of my other skills. Like other people, I like to do what I'm good at.
7. I love to experiment and try out new things with sounds and music.
8. I'm going crazy when I can't do anything with the music inside me which I sometimes experience when waking up.
9. Having made a nice song does add to my self esteem.
10. Music is also a conveyer for ideas/words.
11. I love to be on stage performing the songs (well, running the tracks and singing along).
I suffer from severe chronic rsi, making life almost impossible for me. So it would be very unwise to let my arms get reinjured by little bits of composing music.
But I simply cannot resist! Even though I can only play for 15 minutes a week. Even though it means I can make a song or three each year at most, instead of dozens. And they aren't up to the standards I like to see them anymore.
But it is still much better than nothing at all because composing music is a personal need. I stopped composing for a quite a while and didn't listen to any music at all just to avoid triggering the desire to make music myself. I tried some theatre and stand-up comedy activities as alternatives. But no, everyone (juries included) say I should focus on music because that's where my talents are. Not so much in theatre.
So ... I simply can't stop making music at all. It's a deep inner need. A passion. An addiction. A huge love. I way of life.

I make music, coz its the only thing I am semi good at, and I am really not that good at music.

If I couldn't move my hands much anymore, I'd kill myself (if I could use my hands for that :) ).
I don't do anything without my hands, everything I do in my life would drop and I'd be left with nothing except breathing and my heartbeat, which sometimes do the opposite of inspiring me to live.
