The sound of war...
It's ugly sounds. Sounds that promise dead and destruction. It's horrors. It's weapons that spread horrendous sounds like stuka siren.
My upcoming piece (peace) is dedicated to the horrific sounds of stupid weapons ... remember sound of the V-1 flying bomb with it's ramjet engine (see video link below)? For me this is the ultimate signature sound of war ... and at the same time it has some sort of weird aesthetics.
https://soundcloud.com/p-e-t-e-r-h/verg ... al_sharing
Currently the end of this fragment is way to "sweat" and ear pleasing... promise... I will change that ... And on top of that still lot's of things to optimise to get the perfect dystopy through your ears into your minds...

I copied the whole link and it worked. I guess I was confused by the "google sites".empphryio wrote: Sat Mar 05, 2022 2:37 am It does that for me too. I think if you just copy the link and paste it into a browser it will go through if I remember.

How nice that you used some of my presets. I hope I am not offending you by commenting on your harmonies.
Your Nocturne is in A flat major (not C# Major) and maybe the third chord sounds a bit nicer if you would change the G flats (or F sharp, F#) into a G. The third chord you are playing now is an E flat Minor which is kind of strange to use it to go back to the tonica chord. A plain E flat or E flat 7 would sound a tad nicer in my ears. You can reach this by changing the F# in the third chord into a G.

This is a real problem of progress, but in fact one of many! If you watched the movie "The Legend of 1900", there the pianist reasoned something like this: "While music is being played, it lives. When it is recorded, it dies.", and this is also about analog recording!) That is, everyone has their own "red line". But in essence, recording and playing music is intended to convey the emotions and feelings of one person to others, and as long as there is at least one musician whose recordings inspire you, you can feel it. And if you can feel it, then you can convey it! The choice of tools for this is entirely up to you!)Aro wrote: Fri Mar 04, 2022 11:33 pm And also I'm just playing with ideas, but I'm not sure they're all cohesive. When I start thinking about how most recorded music is just ones and zeros, and not actual violins, then everything falls flat. Just putting some thoughts out there.

I understand your syrupy sweet point of course. To make it less syrupy there are other ways though. Your original version had an interesting angle as the melody tended to be lydian (flattened Seventh) but harmonally it didn't work out. If you would like me to, I can offer you some alternative harmonies without affecting your original melody/composition. I could make a MIDI file. Did you program in 3/4 and in which tempo?

Edit: More interesting but there was definitely a bit of tension in the first version that is complicated.
..I"m curious if I'm the only one who likes the "C#" version better? I definitely prefer it.
You should always walk your own path of course. Respect! (I am not familiar with quoting on forums I am afraid. Sorry about that!)

I don't want to put you out but I'm definitely curious. 3/4 and 140 [70 really I guess but DAW is in 140.The Sound Of Merlin wrote: Sun Mar 06, 2022 3:57 pm I understand your syrupy sweet point of course. No problem. Could you make the syrupy sweet version on downloadable at SoundCloud? Otherwise I will have to write down the melody and my music sheets are in the car. It's cold outside. Grrrrrbrrrrrr

My opinion, briefly) The first version does not fall on the ear - not everything that is original is good!) The second one is probably really a bit cloying, besides the chords are very reminiscent of Bach's "Prelude 1 in C Major") Try to look for more, find something that sounds unusual but good, it's definitely there! And I won't say, "Try it like this: ...", because then it will be my version, not yours)empphryio wrote: Sun Mar 06, 2022 3:43 pm Edit: More interesting but there was definitely a bit of tension in the first version that is complicated.

Some chord ideas without melody.
It's still enormously syrupy sweet. I have played 4 rounds of Ab Major, Bb Minor, Eb Major. Numbers 3 and 4 are harmonically a bit more complicated but still they follow the same scheme. Melody should fit I think.
