Often there is no choice but to buy a synth with a lot of features you don't need, to get the features you do need. Also, the big, expensive synths tend to have the best sound quality so you put up with the shit workflow (too many features to wade through) when it makes sense to. But even the most complex synths still work on the same principles, it didn't take me any longer to learn how to use ANA-2 or Pigments than it took to learn JP6K or Olga. In fact, Olga was probably harder because I had to look up the manual to find out how to display labels in English. Honestly, I can't even imagine what it is you think you need to learn.
NOVAkILL : Legion GO, AMD Z1x, 16GB RAM, Win11 | Audient EVO 8 | Lumi Keys | Studio Pro 8
Korg Odyssey, bx-oberhausen, Proxima, PolyMax, GR8, JP6K, Union, Atomika,
Invader 2, Flow Motion, Olga, TRK 01, Thorn, Spire, VG Iron

I prefer positive perspectives. I have already saved at least 3k within the last years. Saved big 👍

too much!

Not so much really. Started about 10-11 years ago and have purchased 1 DAW and a handful of plugins. Nowadays I buy one every so often, I like keeping my toolset fairly limited though so I only buy something if it is really standout which doesn't happen all the time.

Too much, I don't want to add it up TBH. I would say that at least 2/3rds of it was a waste of money, unless, that is, you count the education that you get from buying too many things. I'm not convinced.

I've stopped buying most plugins from most vendors. I will upgrade cheap bundles if the upgrade is cheap and justifiable.

Since 2000, less than £100 on instruments, none of which I use today

Can't remember how much my host was back then, def under £100, still using it, albeit the latest version

Ive spent probably over 2k just on gear and another $1000 on plugins and plan to get more! theres so much to utilize and even tho im still green when it comes to mixing and mastering, i like to have options and honestly, the marketplace seems to have some awesome deals here!

It is difficult for me to calculate as I bought and sold plugins many times, but the installed plugins (Soft synths and effects) are about U$3000. Most of my spending was in the last 7~8 years (about 90%). I expect my spending, from now on, will be $0~$50 a month! I have all I need and want. I don't feel I miss anything really!
So, for about 20 years, it is not bad at all! I couldn't spend that much if I haven't given up smoking 10 years ago!
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

I quite smoking 30+ years ago and saved $30,000.
Looking at it from this perspective I am now entitled to spend a portion of that on Music creation.
Wow. I feel so much better now. :)

years ago I used to have a beer after work. I stopped that & spent the same sum on plugins until got what I needed. Then I went back to beer, but less often cuz I added it up.

A lot, but only in the last 3 or 4 years (almost nothing for the 20 plus before that).

Because I could at the time, not because I had to. There’s an amazing amount of excellent plugins that are free or $30 or less (esp with sales).

And now I’m heading the other direction after feeling I’ve learned a lot about what I like and what I need and what’s just fun. It was educational. I can still spend a lot of I feel the need, but am trying hard to cut down to just the essentials (for me) plus a few nice to haves. New plugins have to be a lot easier to use or sound a lot better than what I have - both are likely to happen, but not quickly.

Don't know, don't wanna know. :help: In the past, I bought just about everything because we had two incomes, no kids, and lots of disposable income. These days, I rarely buy anything that isn't a no-brainer sale (e.g., BF sale), or discounted upgrade to a new version. Priorities ruined everything :hihi:
