Sorry j wazza - I was replying from my phone and I quoted you instead of the person I meant to.

An advantage Arturia Fragments probably has over the others like Portal and Silo, is future updates. Arturia is a pretty healthy and active company right now that updates their software in a pretty regular basis, so I suspect Fragments will also get its share amount of updates as well in the future.

Silo didn't really had any (in term of features, not just OS maintenances) and same thing for Portal, it is pretty much the same plugin it was when first released. Could be an advantage for some to consider.

I have Quanta but it’s limited vs the desktop (grains, voices, etc).

What if you ran Arturia Efx Fragments threw a send and re-shaped it with REV Intensity?

This was we did, cool combination...

Oh, sure! So I was replying to the poster who mentioned Audio Damage Quanta, a granular synth. The mobile app version of Quanta has the same UI as the desktop PC version, however, the mobile app has fewer grains (50 vs 100 maybe?) and a max of 6 voices instead of 15.

A little background (again):

Huge fan of granular. I used MGranularMB for the most part of the last years and switch to Byome, since I'm more of a replace vs. adding guy when it comes to similar tools, though I can acknowledge people who like to have a broader palette in certain areas. I had Portal on my radar, but found it a little bit more on the pricey side. Didn't had SILO really on my radar since this thead, so cheers for the reminder.

After buying Fragments basically instantly and checking SILO afterwards, my view would be this: SILO does offer a lot more "out there" functions and dives more into weird realms and sonic experimentation, while Fragments is more of a "instantly useable/musical" approach to my ears. This might not be a decent "technical" explanation, but I am not very technical anyway and more of the "what sounds good to me" guy. :hyper: :ud:

That was me you were replying to. I wasn't aware of the differences between the mobile and desktop versions of Quanta, so thanks for sharing. But wasn't recommending the app as drop-in replacement, only as a low-cost extended trial, or to noodle with on the iPad and decide if you want more. That's why I got it.

What Quanta has to do in this thread? Quanta is a synth while Fragments is a full fledged insert FX processor.

Cannot be compared, pudding & shrimps.

This is my take on it too. I haven't figured everything out yet but Fragments often does something musical without too much fighting.

Sure they can be compared. You just did it. Staying on topic, nobody has explained what that godawful depth-of-field animation window in the middle of Fragments is intended to display and whether it's optional or necessary.

Ok thanks :tu: So it's only visible in Texture mode. I can't take my eyes away from it, which is part of the problem. My lizard brain wants to fixate on the movement. Triggers borderline epileptic reaction or OCD. Not sure which. Maybe both. :dog:

Maybe contact Arturia to see if it could be an option to turn on & off in a future update? Who knows...

based on pigment experience: they're listening

This thing is brilliant! Used a vocal audio sample and turned it in to a granular pad soundscape in no time. Really nice plugin again from Arturia.
