I would like to know your guys preferred way to create sfz files. I'm hoping there is some consensus on what the best method is, as I've learned to trust kvr over the years;the majority is usaully right :hihi:

What I really want to know is if there is a way to convert a preset from any old synth directly into sfz, ie, without first having to multi sample them into tagged .wav files and then import those into another tool to create the sfz.

The end goal of creating these sfz files for me is to create a unify library and who know what other uses I might have for this format.

Shane Dunne, developer of Unify referred me to Bjoern's Sample Map Tool, so I'm aware of atleast one tool, lol. In the meantime, I'll do some more research and share my finding with you guys.

Free, Paid, or some method inside Daws or all considered.

Cheers

Find one, bliss by discodsp seems to be able to sample vsti and export sfz. Easy peaazzy, looking for others.

Can someone remind me if Halion can sample vsti's. I remember doing it with hardware but not vstis and most importantly ,can it export to sfz?

I used Extreme Sample Converter in the past. IDK if it's still being updated now, but it worked fine.

It absolutely can. Plus, you get a new and inspirational DAW to boot. :tu:

Extreme Sample Convertor...
No auto tune...

SampleRobot (https://samplerobot.com/) is the gold standard and totally worth the money.

If the price tag is too high you can get the free Akai MPC Beats (https://akaipro.de/mpc-beats) which has an auto-sampler but the format is limited to 4 layers (which normally should be OK). You can then use my free ConvertWithMoss tool to convert MPC format to SFZ (http://mossgrabers.de).

Hello everyone, what you can also try is this: Create a SFZ file with WAV files using any software and open it in Bjoerns Sample Mapper. There you activate the Unify-Mode in the settings and save the file afterwards. After that it is compatible with Unify - at least it should be...

So if there is software that saves in SFZ format but is not directly compatible with Unify, then simply read this SFZ file into Bjoerns Sample Mapper and save it.

The same works with most EXS24 instruments (with WAV files), just drag them into Bjoerns Sample Mapper and then save to sfz. If Unify mode is active in Preferences, then the saved SFZ file should open in Gurusampler.

I did not realize there is a save in unify mode. That is perfect for my intended purpose, well one of them. I was actually planning on using the sfz for other instruments if possible. Once in unify mode, do you happen to know if it is compatible with other samplers/synths. Alternatively, is it possible some sfz might not be compatible with unify? If that is the case, then it sounds like this tool might be the best to work with.

I usually create multi samples from vsti via Directwave and that works like a charm, but there is no direct out to sfz. It would be nice to have this in one step and not two.

It would also be dope if it were possible to bulk convert folders with samples in them into sfz. That would pretty much makes things perfect, otherwise, if I had to break it down into two steps.

My ConvertWithMoss tool mentioned above does this as well.

Hey Timothy, that's cool that you're thinking of putting together a soundest for Unify. I live in the same neck of the woods as John Lehmkuhl (aka PluginGuru) and he's an immensely-talented and down-to-earth individual. He believes (as I do) that music brings people together and his entire team is made up of passionate music lovers. Unify has largely altered the way I design my new sounds from the ground up. Being able to layer multiple VST's in a single, user-friendly package has opened up an entirely new world of possibilities. Not to mention that I can also host VST's now in Logic Pro. Sweet!!
