I think it very often ends up being a random chance whether a creative person who is suffering greatly in their life will (1) be too depressed to make anything, or (2) turn their suffering into fuel for their creativity, and make things to vent out negative emotion. Hell, a lot of people swing back and forth between those two states over time.Lectropunk aka influx808 wrote: Sat Feb 26, 2022 5:59 pm But I strongly believe that people who suffer are usually the most creative people
Suffering and creativity have a very close connection for me personally, but everyone else is still an individual who processes their pain differently so for every chunk of artists that follow option 2, there are untold numbers laying in the gutter that is option 1, we just never hear about any of them for obvious reasons.
So, we can't say "suffering is art" but we also can't say "suffering is not art" either. Both are true.

Those people obviously found a way to control it.Lectropunk aka influx808 wrote: Sat Feb 26, 2022 5:59 pm I'm not saying I'm an artist or anything but I have serious mental issues so I understand how kurt felt been there bought the t shirt.
But I strongly believe that people who suffer are usually the most creative people ,
Look at Vincent van goth or Phil Spector.
Spike Milligan was a genius comedian but it sent him further and further into insanity, made him seriously ill writing the Goon Shows.
For all those who make amazing pieces of art or music or whatever while under some kind of mental stress I wonder how many people are equally as capable but the anxiety crushes them.
Don't trust those with words of weakness, they are the most aggressive

What about natural anxiety? It can save your life. Sometimes "people" want to treat that too, now that's really scary!

No people do not want to treat that "too"...you're right about anxiety, but it isnt really natural vs artificial or anything, it's simply a matter of how some process it. At the VA I took a wonderful series of classes in a program called anxiety bootcamp which was base on Cognitive Behavior Therapy.t3toooo wrote: Wed Mar 09, 2022 10:54 am What about natural anxiety? Basically relearn how to live with anxiety because as you point out living without anxiety would be even more impossible. You want to see anxiety in the animal kingdom just look at our friends the squirrels, anxiety is absolutely key to survival.
The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

Sorry to interrupt the flow of whatever the heck that is.. Just wanted to say that yes, I struggle with anxiety to a lesser or greater extent, daily. Have done for many, many years indeed. Also depression..
My sympathy goes out to all fellow sufferers, whatever the nature of it. Hell of a thing. Stay safe, look after yourselves, and whenever you might need to, seek help.
