My M1 Mini is sufficient for me. However, had I not made the purchase last year, I'd go for one of the newer minis. Sorry. 'Studio.'

They are offering good trade-in values on recent models.

I’m just about to hit 4 years on my iMac. I resisted jumping on the M1 mini and I’m glad I did. I can’t justify the Ultra but the Max should be perfect for my needs.

I’m not a fan of their pricing on memory. It’s an extra $200 to bump it up from 512 to 1 Terabyte.

I won’t be a first adopter but I’ll start hunting for the ideal monitor to pair it with before buying.

i think its pretty simple. if you need professional tools to work with and don't care about the money, go for apple.
most time the people moaning about apple are those who never worked with these Os.
its lightyears away from Windows.

You can also buy it through their educational discount page and save an additional 10%. It's very broad so there's no proof required. Students, parents of students, teachers, school faculty, janitors, people who live near school zones...

Not sure about these new products. The M1 is no doubt perfect for laptop usage, and in that domain I can forgive the soldered SSD and RAM. The tests that I've seen indicate that the latest intel laptop chips rival the M1 Pro for raw power, but only whilst using way more energy and operating at more than double the temperature, which causes throttling in certain tasks, at which point the M1 Pro performs far better. On battery intel chips perform badly. So for a laptop Apple gives better value in the form of superior performance, better screen, speakers, trackpad etc. But for a desktop, whilst it's nice to have a small form factor, in many cases it makes no real difference, and it's more useful to have customisable RAM and SSD.

Having a totally silent computer vs a jet engine taking off in your studio should carry some additional value for you.

The Studios aren't totally silent though.
IIRC, in the presentation yesterday, they were said to be “very quiet in most cases“

But of course i agree with noise level being a huge factor.
Nothing is stopping you from building a “silent“ PC either though.
But hey, the insanely huge fans inside them surely are there for some reason

I watched the presentation live and was surprised that they made such a big deal about the fans. It seems that boosting the clock speed of Apple silicon increases the heat substantially much the same as it does in x86-64 architecture. A good solution though.
