delay. dotted? 3rd and 6th beat?

in reason, if i wanted a "dotted" ping pong delay id put two delays one left on right, and set one to 3 and one to 6. that was my impression then, that each tap happened at the third beat of every bar (L), and 2nd beat of every 2nd bar(R) and so on.
is this the same as a 1/8 dotted delay? cause in cubase, whenever i want the good old 3-6 delay, well theres no such option, same as there were no dotted option in reason.
this probably led to confusion for more than me. maybe someone can lay it out nicely, on what the difference is, if there is any, and if so, how to do the 3 and 6 delay translated into the way daws shows it now i.e division.

Are you sure with "third beat of every bar (L), and 2nd beat of every 2nd bar(R)"? If I interpret "3" as "every third quarter note" and "6" as "every sixth quarter note", then I would think that the repeats happen like this:
| X - - L | - - R - | where X is the initial event. But I don't know Reason, so I am not sure.
You could do that with the Cubase Stereo delay with "left = 1/2 dotted" and "right = 1/1 dotted" (because 1/2 dotted equals three quarter notes, and 1/1 six)
The "3" and "6" notation is rather useless without a reference anyway. HornetDelay e.g. also uses this notation but the base is sixteenth notes, so 3 = every 3 sixteenths notes. Plugins that use this way definitely should display the base value, else it is just irritating IMHO...

Here's some math that hopefully explains this
1/8 = 2/16
dotted means 1.5 x
so 1/8 dotted = 1.5 x 1/8 = 1.5 x 2/16 (substitution from first line) = 3/16
1/4 = 4/16
dotted 1/4 = 1.5 x 1/4 = 1.5 * 4/16 = 6/16
So you want one to be dotted 1/8 and one dotted 1/4

thank you! its so obvious to me now. its just two different ways of typing out the same value. instead of using sixteenths like in old reason, newer daws are using half that, and represents the now non existant "odd" numbers, by the "dotted" time code. makes perfect sense. thanks for laying it out nicelyslasi wrote: Thu Mar 10, 2022 11:09 pm Here's some math that hopefully explains this
