in everyday music i dont see the point, but if its something special thats going to play with my senses then yeah, then why not?

it could be fun to mess around with but its a bit gimmicky, like BT... who's a bit gimmicky.
galaxy rayyys! powerful.

No, but i have to admit I don't really know what it exactly is.

As far as i know, Surround Sound needs 5.1 or something like that. And it is not supported by a common audio CD. Might be wrong, though.

What I'd like to use is something like 3DPanner Motion Effects. It doesn't need more than stereo and does the panning by somehow altering the waveforms of the left and right channel.
But I'd rather use it for spooky spinning theremin effects or something like that, not as a subtle mastering tool.

I don't and I don't see the point for music. We don't have 5 ears, do we?

I've been considering doing surround in the ambient stuff I've been working on, but how many people have surround systems?

Seriously, I have no idea, but it would be good to know..

take a look at the acousmodulesplugs at www.acousmodules.free.fr (i think...or look after the keyword) and watch your head bursting...;)...that is weirdweird stuff !!!

Working on it.

Seriously, though: we have just two eyes, but see in lovely cinerama panascopic surround vision. Ears aren't as directional, but we do experience a richer soundfield when sources are in all different directions.

That said, if the music's no good, no amount of spatial tomfoolery will help make it more interesting. Skillful manipulation of space in audio can be impressive, and done right can add to musical interest and enjoyment.

P.S.: Yes, that is a mouse growing an actual human ear on its back. My feelings about this experiment are complicated and extremely mixed.

see that ear seems too big for the mouse, I bet he gets deafened by loud noises.

Fortunately (I suppose) it's just the external meatus, with appropriately formed cartilage. No sensory apparatus, just a sort of waveguide.
