Compressor with an alternative compression algorithm

When I have to click around endlessly on a website trying to find a screenshot, or user manual, or sound examples, or any decent selling points, that gives me plenty of time to realize that I really don’t need another compressor since, like most people these days, I already have far more than I’ll ever need. Interest lost. Pass.

Thank you so much for your feedback. We will take this into account in order to be more objective for customers. But I just wanted to ask, what does the screenshot mean? Thanks!cryophonik wrote: Sat Mar 12, 2022 10:17 pm When I have to click around endlessly on a website trying to find a screenshot, or user manual, or sound examples, or any decent selling points, that gives me plenty of time to realize that I really don’t need another compressor since, like most people these days, I already have far more than I’ll ever need. Oh darn it you caught me mid-edit, that text is moderately outdated and yet it stares back at me from the void of the past in quote form, nooooo...!
Calming down.
I would be happy to check it out as a demo just to see what I think of your novel approach when I have time to do so. But, in terms of actually buying it, at $129 absolutely can't, even if it's really cool I'd pass on that due to cost.
For me personally I look really carefully at plugin costs above $40 and it has to be something that I truly can't get with what I've got, something that not just offers a novel functionality but a very useful novel functionality. It really has to improve my workflow if it is going to cost $60 or up. The last time I paid $60 for a compressor was Voxengo Deft Compressor in 2012 and I have used it extensively in that time, smart mix of features and sounds good. But around that same time I got Klanghelm DC8C for a lower price and I've used it at least as much and it is still today my go-to ducking compressor (and, he has offered free post-sale support for it as two version updates that added great features and improved it considerably too). When you understand DC8C3's controls it feels like mixing with mind control, and he sells that still today at like $30 or under worth of euros.
If it were priced at $40 and it accomplishes a nice compression action quickly without being especially fiddly that might be worth it for me personally. If it were $60, better be really, really special and I still might just have to wait on it with inflation causing so many rising prices, plus there still being not just affordable alternatives but many that I already own and have good experience working with. If it were $29, which has become a kind of industry standard "discount price" for plugins from brands like Waves and Plugin Alliance and some others, getting closer to impulse buy territory. Again this is all of course just speaking for myself, everyone has different means and priorities.

There is some truth in your words, but how other companies sell their plugins for crazy money is still not clear. You mentioned plugins for 29 euros. But they have Plugin Alliance consoles that cost 200, 300, 400 dollars. Isn't that crazy?Agreed wrote: Sat Mar 12, 2022 10:25 pm Oh darn it you caught me mid-edit, that text is moderately outdated and yet it stares back at me from the void of the past in quote form, nooooo...!

It's just a classic "high list price, low sale price" strategy. Plugin Alliance has routine "Flash Sales" that put those same products on sale at $49.99 or under, and I do mean routine, literally a new one every day of the month, plus at least four annual bigger sales that have their own discounts as well. PA also does a monthly voucher system that gives $25/$50/$75 vouchers based on how much you've spent with them in the last 12 months, and with the $75 voucher you can often get new plugins that have a list price of $125 or so for $50 or under. I actually haven't paid more than $24-$30 for a newer Plugin Alliance release in a while. Even when they have products that stay off the deepest discount lists for a year or so, eventually they come around.
IKMM also does high prices year round but steep discounts on sales. If you look at Waves list prices they're high too, but they are well understood by everyone to go on sale at $29/$39/$49 regularly so I doubt anyone pays full price at this point.
I think those high list prices are one part plain old marketing, and one part holdover from the years when you COULD sell plugins at prices that high because there were more bigger mastering/mixing studios buying, more money in that market. These days a lot of the money is in the home studio market, and it's no coincidence many of the same companies who once sold stuff at higher prices are now offering more and more aggressive promotions to get those prices down into a range where more of the possible consumers of such things will actually bite.
Of course there are some tools that do not have routine, or deep, or even any discounts - thinking of things like Serum, for example, which I don't think has been on sale since its introductory price but which nevertheless is a popular product with many adherents. You have to have a pretty special product to make it like that, though, one which is kind of undeniable - and even then there will inevitably be competitors who hinge on providing a more affordable alternative, so it goes.

Everything you say is actually true. I need to consult with the team on how best to deal with the pricing policy.Agreed wrote: Sat Mar 12, 2022 10:45 pm It's just a classic "high list price, low sale price" strategy. All the tips here are useful, they will help me to go to the best results and I am grateful to all those who were able to take the time and speak out as they see fit!

I appreciate the dialog. Some devs would take it more personally or be upset, glad it was received positively in this case in the spirit of honesty that it was given. I will pay attention to see what develops
Now if only I could stop editing posts until they're precisely what I want to say, I end up with preserved thoughts trapped in amber quotations that aren't reflective of my ideal finished post state

i took a bite and demoed it.
Crashed both Logic and PluginDoctor, M1 and Rosetta.
Monterey 12.2.1
won't comment on the price before i demo it.
last time i spent that much on a compressor it was tone projects unisum (110€) but it literally blew me away and it's extremely configurable and flexible, and is totally unique - i can't get the same sound or close with any other compressor i have. Eager to try this one. Tell me if you need crash reports.
It loaded fine at first, but after inputting the trial license, it crashed and will now crash on load.

While we are at the beginning of the journey, this is possible, later we will close these loopholes. And maybe we'll cancel the mail for the demo.humanboeing wrote: Sun Mar 13, 2022 12:10 amPro tip: google "10 minute mail". Javascript knows about your machine, including immutable data. You can register millions of emails, but without changing all the parameters of the machine, including what cannot be changed, you will not receive anything after entering the data.humanboeing wrote: Sun Mar 13, 2022 12:28 am Making a new random gmail account takes up a minute, can't avoid trickery ;D
