I spent over ten years working professionally on the same iMac... never had a problem. Last year I switched to an m1 Mac Mini and it’s a dream. Rosetta 2 and Unify plus two weeks initial sorting out and it’s the same... works, big projects no problem, new software - in Rosetta 2 - no problem.
I’m a happy Logic user so being ‘locked in’ doesn’t bother me at all.
Whatever works for you... If you got the cash to spend on one of their high cost products good luck to you. The Mac Mini was really reasonably priced and I don’t see the need to upgrade to anything faster etc. It’s all good.

this time it was a temp lock, several pages since I posted yesterday that this thread will go poof. Now I spend all this time going through the posts having to clean it up, and I am not doing that again. A few people will notice I dont care if what they post from this point on, even if it's 100% spot on topic, some of you have worn out your welcome in this thread...I see your name in this thread I am not going to even bother, just delete it and I am subscribed to this topic.

I had an MBP, high-end 16,1, ie., later 2019, that was just not a computer anymore, it had hit the floor too many times.
when I bought it, it was expensive and I will have considered it irresponsible not to get AppleCare +, because shit happens.
So I took it in. What I got back was a whole new computer, and the charge was $299. It was supposedly about 1400 bucks worth of work, but it was a new computer. It looked and felt like the thing I paid over 5k for in 2020.
The display replaced, the shell replaced, the keyboard... Ship of Theseus, this.

So, sure, here's something to bitch and moan about, they're horrible, this is coercion, yaddaya
or adapt and do the adulting, buy this insurance. I hadn't heard of any 60 bucks a year, mine now, maybe because it's "Plus", is 100 a year.

The $60 a year that a person can extend forever sounds like a pretty good deal and a no brainer if somebody plunks down thousands for a machine.

Does the $60 have to paid right away for the first year or can it be added after 1 year since I think that's what the standard Apple warranty is that comes included with the machine.

not sure about this new plan, but for the stuff i own i think you have about 30 days or so after purchase / activation to still be eligible for Apple Care.
I (hope i) don't need it, as i usually pretty much never break things

Same for me, I very rarely break things, I don't even own or use a case for my iPhone 13, I keep it naked.

I'm not worried about me dropping anything, but things can go wrong sometimes I guess if somebody is unlucky or if they use it for many years and maybe something would need to be replaced.

I've never owned a computer as expensive as the Apple Studio before though, so I just might spring for the $60 for the number of years that I own it, just in case anything were to happen, then I'd be safe. It works out to about 16 cents per day if my quick math is correct.

My iPhone 13 is naked too, but i carry it inside a protective pocket, so it doesn’t get scratched from my keys or pens.

With my MacBook(s) I’m just naive enough that in my 40+ years of computer use, basically nothing really broke on me, other than once out of complete stupidity, but since then i‘m trying to avoid being completely careless with my equipment. And i use my stuff very long, >10 years easily, sometimes much longer.
Of course anything can fail, but i hate subscriptions and only do them when there’s basically no way around them, so I’m not trying to convince anyone to avoid insuring your stuff

I keep my iPhone 13 (mini) in my front pants pocket that's dedicated to it, so there's no chance of it getting scratched by anything else.

Based on the previous Macs I've owned, both desktop and laptop, and my experiences with them, I shouldn't need Apple Care at all, because my desktop Mac from around 2000 is still working fine to this day and I've never once bought Apple Care for any of the previous devices or computers that I've bought, but computers are far less self repairable these days, so I'll probably end up getting Apple care for the first time ever in decades just to give me piece of mind and the price seems reasonable enough to make me go for it.

I once had a problem with a Mac.

The graphics card in my old 27 inch iMac broke down. But it was a known issue with that particular and they swapped out the card without charge.

i dropped my friggon brand new macbook pro in 2013, getting ready to go to the hospital when my daughter was born. Landed right on the corner and the lid wouldn't close. Had to file it down with a rasp!

apple store replaced the screen, and changed my mainboard, but i forgot to deactivate my iLok plugins and had to contact all the devs to get new licenses. Good times. It's still going strong though! and it was a refurb.

Always bought AppleCare, probably always will.

Sometimes not had to use it but when I have, man it is a nice feeling to have.

AppleCare is an automatic for me on any mobile device. I've never done it on desktop machines, but it's probably a good idea on something spendy.

Has anyone actually ordered the Studio? I can't wait to see some benchmarks for audio. There's literally none right now.
