I do wish I had bought XO in the sale!

Post

I have both,

I don't use XO anymore.

Absolutely love Atlas 2, get the best loops out of it. Also find it super fast/easy to use and I use the randomisation a lot (either kits or the sequencers or both). I didn't like Atlas 1 so much.

As someone said above, I love having many different drum maps that all sound different. Want Sample from Mars DX kit? How about all Samples from Mars drums as a pool? How about some Wave Alchemy drums or Legowelt drums? All have a different vibe as a collection.

Atlas is amazing. It's written so many good drum patterns just using random kits and randomising the sequences. I find it best to have a seperate map for each kit and then I'll combine all creators into one big kit (Samples For Mars for example). Have 2 huge maps for Battery and NI Synthetics Drums.

Neither are quite like geist though :(
What is it you like about Geist? So many people have mentioned it with enthusiasm. I haven't demoed that yet, but I'm curious how it compares.

i demo'd both, bought atlas. but i could just have easily bought XO. who cares? buy one (or both), make some music. both are great.

XO won in my case. The main reason was that the sound packs that come with Atlas2 were kind of MPC-y / Maschine-y, which means they included a lot of non-percussion sounds as if you were expected to write hip-hop "beats" with it, like the ones people using MPC / Maschine post all the time. Nothing against that music, it's just not something I'm looking for for me.

Obviously, you could swap out the factory library with your own sounds, but I like to start from factory presets, disable kicks (I use XO as a source of percussion loops to enrich a "boring" 4/4 kick), randomise the samples a bit; so XO's presets seem like a better starting point.

On the flip-side, Atlas seems to have a better sequencer, more sound-shaping features and a Linux version.

I'll probably end up buying it sometime, too.

BTW, didn't XO had 2 flavours - "Lite" and full? Just went to their website and it's only one now, priced somewhere in the middle of the two versions. Interesting.

Great project, but not a plugin…

IIRC they dropped the lite version at some point.

Bought both, sold XO.
Atlas works better for my workflow and the dev implemented a feature request I had (Good Support!). I like devs that listens to their users and update their plugins. :)

Wanted to try both but XO refused to install on my PC, XLN told me to switch off my virus checker and firewall whilst installing. Gotta be kidding me, thats exactly the time when you want a virus checker on! So I went with Atlas (which installed immediately without a problem) and I'm very happy with it. :)

I got both XO and Atlas 2 and freakin love both of them. XO is hands down amazing, but I hate the fact that the slots are so limited. However, the AI map is unbeatable.

Atlas 2 has a great sequencer, and the stock sounds are really nice.

Meanwhile, Geist 2 has been sitting in my apps for a while and I need to take the time to learn it better, as I hear great things about it.

I ended up getting XO and love it. My primary drums now. I even load it in all my projects as a sample manager. Perfect for the way I like to work.

And shout out to support. They have been extremely helpful and responsive.
