Hi, simple question for those who understand the pros vs cons of difference in CPU architecture and what gives the most performance for DAW usage:
5800x3d vs 5900x
They'll probably come in at about the same price next month (5900x seems to be coming down in price now). I'm using Live 11.1. Which will give me the most performance gain over my current 2300x? My mobo/RAM/CPU cooler will support either.
Thanks.

I guess we'll have to wait for DAW-specific benchmark comparisons to say, but I'd be curious to know as well.
I'd lean more towards the 5800X3D for DAWs. Those workloads tend to mirror games in a lot of ways, preferring cache and IPC over lots of cores/threads. But it would probably depend on which DAW and plugins you use.
Either CPU would be a massive upgrade over a 2300X however.

Take a single oscillator, producing a drone. Send it to the wave shaper, altering the tone.
This can be a triangle, Sawtooth or a square. Modulate the pulse width, nobody will care

The 5800X3D has advantages in gaming because of its larger cache.
For a DAW, the singlecore performance is more relevant.
5900X -> 3,70 GHz / Turbo: 4,80 GHz
5800X3D -> 3,40 GHz / Turbo: 4,50 GHz

According to the benchmarks the 5900X is the better choice.
