Can't really move forward without T-RackS and AmpliTube.

I don't know why they're being so leisurely with their native Silicon updates. Up until now, IK has made it their business model to hitch their wagon to Apple.
Well, TRacks has a lot of plugins, a lot of them are pretty old and since it is all part of a bundle I guess it must be a ton of work!

Also, we‘re at 5.8.0. Don’t you get that faint smell of T-Racks 6? I don’t know, could be freedom fries, but I think it’s version 6 I‘m smelling.

Yes. Peter has talked about T-RackS 6, saying the installer will allow you to select which plugins to install.

With the exception of MODO DRUM, which would not run on M1 in Rosetta2 because of AVX2 instructions, it seems like IK is just rolling the M1 updates into larger product updates. That's why I say there doesn't seem like IK has a lot of urgency in getting them out. We have to wait for new AmpliTube gear to before we might get AT5 running native? And as for T-RackS 6, yes, I definitely think it's coming, but it is probably still months away. IK takes forever to get products out the door, especially full version updates.

They've only gotten a few out so far. Compare that to Arturia or Waves or Eventide or brainworx, who all have quite a few plugins and have released native versions for all of them.

Or you know, melda, who had it in march 2021 already and has more plugs than all of the above

They've announced the update now (with a link to the same page as before that's had a few wording changes accordingly):
The free Maintenance Update 01.22 is available now. It will affect a big subset of Plugin Alliance products, including Apple Silicon M1 support and brings many bug fixes and improvements:
It's a bit ironic that on the day the M1 update finally gets announced, the promoted product is the Bettermaker, one of the ones that isn't yet M1 native...

Native Instruments is the next big one for me. I’m worried though that they still won’t address their GUI issues which make Kontakt etc so painful to use.

Especially because they do a lot of plugins, that are part of a bundle, who are also cross-platform, a developer will pick a framework that runs on a platform and program against that. So a major upgrade of an OS or technology does not impact your solution that much, only the framework layer created for that platform.

There might be some CPU specific optimizations, but a lot of audio plugins use a lot of the same base technology and algorithms, which would be code shared between all plugins. So no, if it is a descent developer knowing what they are doing, it actually would not be a huge lot of work if your framework was already cross-platform.

And it's not like the Apple silicon was introduced just recently. The 64bit basis of it, was introduced with iPhone 7. M1 was released in 2020 and developers got access to MacMini's running on an M1 proto since nearly a year before release.

Add to this that IKM also has iOS versions of a lot of their software, including Amplitube and MixBox, which already run ARM code. So it is really weird that their software is not yet M1 ready, as their code base apparently is not the issue here. The M1 firestorm cores are basically the same as the ones in the A14 CPU.

There's no valid excuse, imo, on IK's part. It's just their usual modus operandi. Amplitube 5 is relatively new, so I don't think we'll have to wait for 6 for Native. TrackS has me a bit concerned. I got all kinds of stuff in the last group buy, and if I won't be able to use it, I'll be pissed.

I also assume that list of non updated PA plugs pretty much matches the list of devs who are using PA more as just a distribution channel with their own out of house development and framework.
Somebody from NEOLD posted in a Facebook group that they have submitted M1 Native versions of all their Plugins to PA so hope that they will be added soon.

Seeing that Peter wrote the following in the post for the SampleTron 2.0.3 release I can just hope that all current software in the Total Studio 3 MAX bundle will be updated with M1 native versions.
Peter - IK Multimedia wrote: Thu Feb 17, 2022 4:21 pm Native Apple M1

IK is pleased to announce that version v2.0.3 of SampleTron 2 for Mac/PC brings native compatibility with Apple M1 processors to IK's popular collection of vintage and tape-based samplers. As a result, Total Studio 3.5 MAX is one step closer to full native compatibility.

I have that, Sampletank 4, BX3 in Native. I need Amplitube and TrackS to be Native. They're not.

I also have Amplitube and TrackS and am waiting for them to be updated with Apple Silicon native versions. But from Peter's quote I am hopeful that these will be updated without having to upgrade to any new major versions as they would most likely not be included in the existing Total Studio 3.5 MAX.

My interpretation of Peter's quote is that they plan to update all current software in the Total Studio 3.5 MAX bundle to be Apple Silicon native. But I could of course be wrong on that.

Because of the nature of T-RackS CS, users of TR5 will automatically get their gear upgraded to TR6 for free.

Yeah, exactly. If TR6 is released, all your existing gear will still work via the CS, and they'll leave a few features+new modules behind the paid full version.

For me, I'm still hoping for..

1. Kush
2. Relab
3. NeuralDSP
4. Black Rooster
5. IK Multimedia (T-Racks & Amplitube)
6. Native Instruments
7. Remaining Plugin Alliance
8. VCV Rack (I know about Cardinal)

I have a few others that I can live without. In fact, I'm getting by just fine on my M1 machine without the above, plenty of other options, but that's the list of stuff I'm most anxious to see at this point.

Post

Yeah, I’m anxious about Relab, too.
Mostly because they pretty much only have two products and everything else has been in various states of development for the past decade. And they still haven’t even gotten VST3 done yet. So what hope do we have?

And then there’s Virtual Sound Stage which is absolutely essential, but the developer has gone MIA.
