Atlas Atlas 2

Decided it to try it again. Choose my Sample Libraries to Map, had it doing the mapping, running in the background.. made the mistake of clicking in settings on bluetooth midi out of curiosity....Atlas 2 standalone came crashing down and lost all the Map locations.
Instant uninstall for me.

^ Oh dear. You Mac or PC?

I am really interested in this drum app. My only problem is the copy protection method. If it used Serial or Keyfile, or watermark, I'd have already purchased it. I avoid anything that needs to call home, requires a dongle, or uses ILOK, PACE (or similar). I'd love to get this some day. One can hope. :)

working beautifully here on my intel mac (12.3), in both logic pro (so, the AU), and as a standalone.

i didn't think i'd like the random kit thing, but am, instead, loving it. easy to find something inspiring and then choose, for example, a different snare. great plugin!

TBF, it's a simple log on once authorization. So not as bad as the others you mentioned (which I also avoid). Install and authorization is very easy and non-invasive IMO.

And if the company goes under (like so many have in the past)?

Then you can't buy it and download.

if you have it then just backup it:
~/.config/Algonaut/Atlas/license2.dat

Probably is machine ID specific, so once you buy a new computer or reinstall the operating system, it probably wont work.

Very possible, but I don't care, because I'm not an opensource purist (or whatever), i'm just buying and use good things.

That's where XO has a little edge (not about solving the Out-Of-Business scenario):
In case of reinstall or moving to another machine, you can de-activate the current machine and re-activate the new one (or the same after reinstalling the OS).

AFAIK with ATLAS, after using the three activations you need to ask for any additional ones.
I own and I like both but I'm about to update both my machines and I also reinstall the OS periodically (once a year) and that is my issue with Atlas (which I prefer a notch more over the XO).

Atlas developer should try to adapt the same functionality, as many other companies implement, for a User Control Panel for Act-DeAct the plugin.

Again, this is not the answer to the "Out-Of-Business Event" but a little more "Self Managing" your purchase.
