Is TrackComp 2 by DMG Audio the best compressor?

I'm trying to decide whether to buy PSP Impressor at intro price ($20).
TrackComp 2 is what i would buy if money is no object. Maybe i'll buy it some time later.

That's a valid viewpoint, but i want to hear what people say about "TrackComp2 by DMG Audio" + "best?"
& then i threw in "PSP Impressor for $20" into the equation too!

Best? No. I get the impression that DMG’s support is flaky (at least in my few instances). PSP has always been very timely.

In my experience they've been quite snappy in helping with two bug fixes. Responded within 24 hours and fixed within 24 hours.masterhiggins wrote: Fri Mar 18, 2022 12:47 am Best? No. I get the impression that DMG’s support is flaky (at least in my few instances). PSP has always been very timely.
Also TrackComp2 is a great plugin. Besides Compassion its my most used.

If you're on a budget, DC8C is probably the best compressors in its class. Highly customizable, can handle practically any material. The DC8C can easily hold it's own against every high end compressor, you just need to know how to tweak it. The one thing it may not do well is if you want a very specific analog modeled behaviour.

Someone already wrote "best" is subjective and i agree.
Every compressor can be good on different duties. My first pick it's pro-c2 when i need something clean with a lot of options.
If i need some color i pick mjuc or elrey. The first it's most colored, the latest it's almost on every vocal i work with.
Last but not least if i need a very fast comp purple it's my 1176 favorite compressor, again it became a must on my vocals.
I also like solid bus comp for drum bus, and somtime baby audio i heard ny for the bus comp too, if just want some dirtier sounds.
I have a lot of other compressors, but lately i just stick on those i wrote here

I'm sorry you had this experience, the vast majority of DMG support e-mails are addressed within 24 hours of receiving them. We've always resolved all issues as quickly as possible, if there's anything you feel we did that was "flaky" please PM me and I'll try to get it resolved ASAP.masterhiggins wrote: Fri Mar 18, 2022 12:47 am Best? Definitely NOT flaky. I emailed you guys about a "bug" that turned out to just be an error on my end with my laptop, and you still managed to help me solve it!Krzysztof Oktalski wrote: Fri Mar 18, 2022 9:46 amI'm sorry you had this experience, the vast majority of DMG support e-mails are addressed within 24 hours of receiving them. Definitely subjective. I tried Trackcomp for it's API 2500 and it sounded very different to the other emulations I have - and not in a way I liked either. Clearly it's a well coded, versatile beast though and it deserves to be auditioned.

yes (It's the best)
I have all compressors mentioned, TrackComp2 is the first I reach for (DMG mode mostly, then 25k and G-Bus). you have to get accustomed to the control ranges offered, but when I tested it a bit longer everything was possible. Also with the 1176 modes etc (you have to turn up Q-Bias, default is no good on the 76's).
Impressor is also good, use it on Drums/parallel mix there, it has this great preset system of PSP they introduced recently, where you can quickly change the preset and audition on the fly.
Pro-C 2's interface is a different workflow and I feel its emulations/settings are a bit more convoluted. Although I didn't use it that much because of TrackComp2, YMMV. It's also good, but I feel TrackComp offers more color options (the most of all mentioned) and is quicker to set up, at least in DMG mode. Haven't had enough time with Impressor yet, but it's again a different approach than the other 2.
