i'd have done the same lol
though i probably would have told manson that he's even worse, and not to bother hooking me up with his fruity-ass pansy friends

Brian was still cool back then. It was right after Trent signed him to his label & they were mixing Brian's first LP at a South Beach studio.
Brian's cool factor plummeted not long after.

I'm with you d_ek, but I've always suspected, try as he might to make it otherwise, that NIN was really more Depeche Mode than Foetus, Big Black, et al.dystonia_ek wrote:I thought he was all about borrowing production tricks from Ministry, Foetus and Coil, adding a pinch of commercialism, and selling it as 'original' to kids who are too young to remember the folks he's shamelessly imitated. But maybe that's just me.WhiteNoise wrote:As someone who was a big trent fan in my teens, I can say that his music is all about experimentation, individualism, anti-authoritarianism, and challenging excepted norms.
How anyone could see something that blatantly commercial as in any way challenging is beyond me.

Well there are at least some ppl please to read that quote from T.R., and that's us. Because it means a lot.
The question is not whether you like NIN or not, it's simpler than that. You have got this guy who has been doing this for year. He knows more audio related items than nearly everybody else and he probably can afford any of those if he doesn't allready own it. And what does he use at the end of the day to perform what has always been critical in his art - the audio design ?
Not something build in hardware by a long time reference brand. Not something invented with a lot of famous names on the industry with huge budget. Not something that is advertised everywhere. Not some "same than last year but supposedly slightly better conservative FX or synth" that NAMM is full of every year. Not something that by default every peeps around consider allready suited for music production...
No... He uses Ohm Force - all Ohm Force.
And to us, after having spend years trying to invent new, better way to do music and noises in a tiny, risky business, it sounds like a consecration. It sounds like not only is our stuff new and edgy and striking, but it's also used by who should, in theory, use it.
This year there starts to be a real lot of ppl from the music industry working with our stuff, ppl that works with/for the Chemical Brothers, Bjork, Madonna, Prodigy, bands like Rammstein or Mogwaï, and much more. And this is good. This where we dreamed our plugin to end when we have started this, and this is even better because we have done it our way, making each tools so flexible that everyone could make his very own sound out of it, making no concession to professional conservatism, technical difficulties or stupid tricks to make shit impressive.
So yeah... I like to read this.
And as a bonus, I know that Ivory Force is a big big long time fan from Trent, and that in a way he's doing plugs because of his taste for NIN. So knowing how much pleasant it is for him makes me cheers even more

Of course it means alot, and you guys should be very pleased with yourselves. Please don't take offense by what others & myself have said about Trent; there's no denying the commercial impact he has had & the influence as well on many musicians out there. Some of us just have more time backstage & we have a different perspective.Red_Force wrote:Well there are at least some ppl please to read that quote from T.R., and that's us. Because it means a lot.
I think it's outstanding that you are getting mentions from TZ, & reflect LBN's opinion 100%.
Congrats, & keep up the good work!

So what the heck is this Ohm Force? If Reznor uses it, then I will try it. (wicked smirk)
But seriously...
Name another sound that sounds like NIN. Please. I dare you. You do get the impression that he brought recording with a computer into the mainstream.
I gotta jam, I can hear the hordes of Pro Tools users stampeeding closer....

Maybe I wasn't clear in why I started this post. I'm glad to see the Ohmies get some (what I consider) high-brow recognition. More power to 'em.xoxos wrote:well, ahja.. it seems like there's a lot of people who are interested in making sure that people are more interested in what their icons are doing than in what they're doing. makes for a good ol' fashioned malleable society. that's all.ahja wrote:I suppose a lot of people are interested in how he achieves his sounds. That's all.
ffs
I was going to talk about how the Ohmies were glad to get my email but it appears they beat me to that tidbit.

for sure.... i may not like the man or his music much..
...but i'll tell you one thing, if I made plugins, i'd be well well beyond stoked to learn that he was using them
I mean look at those studio pics, he obviously has access to all the best gear in the world, and can use anything at all that he wants.... the fact that he would choose my plugins would be an amazing validation of my work... this issue is entirely seperate from what I think of his music
congrats Ohm Force! You guys deserve it.
(although you do know that he's only using your plugs because he heard that I like them....)

No. Minimonster is not just slightly better. It's Melohman, and as you'll see/hear soon, this bring the Moog design in another dimensionxRAVENx wrote:You aren't talking about the Minimonster are youRed_Force wrote:(...)Not some "same than last year but supposedly slightly better conservative FX or synth" that NAMM is full of every year.(...)![]()
