To me, the word plasticky litterally means it sounds like a synth is played within a plastic tube. Some early VSTis sounded like that to me. Very artificial sounding synth-wanna-bes. However, TAL’s stuff would deffo not be among it, imo. I have demoed Model 64, and to me it fails the bass big time compared to both TAL and Arturia. Well, different tastes should not bring anyone down on this. Just enjoy the diversity.

Agree, it is just different tastes. Not saying TAL synths are bad, but somehow I did not gel with their sound (nor GUI). Ultimately, what matters is what we like more and how we use it our music.

It's totally worth it at that price.

What does that exactly mean, are you using EQs on your sounds?TribeOfHǫfuð wrote: Tue Feb 22, 2022 6:05 amI have demoed Model 64, and to me it fails the bass big time compared to both TAL and Arturia.
The classic DCO sound is of course a bit thinner, more skinny. But for me this is a pro argument.

This synth sounds great but I really hate that the voice count is only six notes. I'll be trying to play an arpeggio or bigger chords and some of the notes drop out. I know they were trying to model the original exactly but in this day and age you can handle a lot more than six notes at once, how about an option to allow for a larger voice count? Just my whining 2c

Spent some time with it a few days ago, and indeed this was my first on my wish list. An optional feature to allow more voices.seangm wrote: Fri Mar 18, 2022 12:44 pm This synth sounds great but I really hate that the voice count is only six notes. I for one appreciate how true they've stayed to the original.
But, yeah, I wouldn't say "no" to a souped-up version with more voices. ...and another envelope and LFO ...and a tiny bit of a mod-matrix.

I don't know how you can come to that conclusion. I have both the TAL and SoftWave and the bass on the SoftWave sounds just the same as hardware. Speakers beware.TribeOfHǫfuð wrote: Tue Feb 22, 2022 6:05 am I have demoed Model 64, and to me it fails the bass big time compared to both TAL and Arturia. The M1 update is great. The plugin GUI loads really quickly. I had the early release on PC and there was a lag between clicking the plugin and the GUI loading. Now it's super smooth. This is an awesome Juno replica. The bass is right where I think it should be, personally.

The sub-osc on the 84 has way more oomph to it than the TAL, to my ears. I haven't actually analyzed it, that's just my reaction doing a comparison.cyberheater wrote: Mon Feb 21, 2022 1:55 pm I've downloaded the Model 84 demo to compare to the TAL-U-NO-LX (I know they are different synths). I'm using good quality closed backed headphones and to my ears they sound virtually identical.
Anyone else compared the two?
EDIT: I see now that this has been discussed already, with focus on how different the Sub + Saw together sounds, which I totally agree with.

Yep. Plenty of oomph and after I read those discussions I tried the TAL version against the 84 demo and bought the 84 same day. I’ve owned several Juno 106s over the years and the 84 absolutely is a 106 in software form. It’s incredible.mholloway wrote: Fri Mar 18, 2022 4:17 pmThe sub-osc on the 84 has way more oomph to it than the TAL, to my ears. I guess the 72 and 84 were made by different teams, but I wish the 'additional controls' on the 84 were as extensive and useful as those on the 72 -- particularly, the 72 offers a knob to scale the -depth- of the envelope modulating the filter, whereas the 84 only offers velocity > direct to cutoff, which is a heck of a lot less useful in terms of hands-on-keys playability. It's a pet peeve of mine when synths only give you a direct vel > cutoff knob instead of the vel > (filter) env depth routing. I realize it's irrelevant in terms of a 'true emulation' of this synth, but if their 72 model can have it, then the 84 shoulda had it as well, imho...
This is also the one area where the TAL definitely wins for me, as the velocity slider provided on there modulates the envelope-to-filter depth, not the cutoff itself.

Any specific preset? Not sure I noticed this issue (will check and update if I do), but I do think there are some stability and GUI scaling issues with FL Studio, which could be because they don't officially support it. It's not as smooth experience as it is with my all other plugins. Regardless, loving it like everyone here.Vortifex wrote: Fri Mar 18, 2022 10:48 am Getting occasional stuck notes in FL Studio. Fixed sized buffers doesn't fix it. Support are aware but no solution yet.
