Oh damn.. RS met pitch shifter is actually a pretty nifty granular processor (designed for simple pitch shifting, but capable of some very odd stuff).

Speaking of which... Did you get the latest SaltyGrain update? They updated it few weeks ago with a new filtering per grains. Very cool feature that opens up lot of new possibilities instead of most granular delay using lame post-filtering. Check it outAh_Dziz wrote: Sat Mar 19, 2022 8:33 am I'm a big fan of salty grain or reaktor for most stuff. I use crusher x when I gotta get super crazy. My issue with most of the real-time buffer granulizer effects out there is that most of them won't let you generate grains fast enough or or small enough to achieve many of the stranger sounds that are possible with granular delays.

I think they really are showing their age, compared to the newer granular ensembles built lately like:greententacle wrote: Sat Mar 19, 2022 5:56 pm its long ago i tried grainstuff.

thanks for the link, will try.
for me, that grainstuff is like a diva. nice to hear solo for a few seconds, put hardly fit in a song context.

Depends greatly what you mean by 'song'. Depends on the context, style & the genre. In a typical rock song, it would probably be a challenge to make fit granular clouds for sure. In Electronic music, glitch, techno, sound design, much more easier & useful.greententacle wrote: Sat Mar 19, 2022 9:34 pm thanks for the link, will try.

See, I'm an ambient artist and granular synthesis is part of every pieces I create. So it really depends on the material you work on. Definitely not a swiss knife technique.

for ambient it's great, i think.
but haven't heard anything weird and freaky.
or seldom. most time it sounds like a pad with a bell on it.

that has granular most become, pad like... but it is capable of so many textures, results, quite unlimited. make drum sounds out of recording, or synth track... that have there 'own' live, still synced..greententacle wrote: Sat Mar 19, 2022 9:55 pm for ambient it's great, i think.

or extract a new layer of sound from several sources, can be quite freaky...

You obviously haven't listened to the right things if you think it's only good for belly pads and it cannot sound crazy. Granular is very powerfu when used in skilled hands and is capable of many sonic possibilities, from deep lush pads to crunchy, organic textures & brittle glassy particles.greententacle wrote: Sat Mar 19, 2022 9:55 pm for ambient it's great, i think.

i was always dreaming about a acoustic guitar track, slowly get atomized in small pieces.
can i do that with granular?
