Maybe, but it really doesn't matter; obviously a number of people felt like it was a topic worth discussing, which is the main point of a place like this.gaggle of hermits wrote: Wed Mar 16, 2022 10:50 am OP did a hit and run: they've posted a grand total of twice on the entire forum. i don't think it's an unreasonable conclusion reading the OP to be honest and given the way a lot of forum threads go, where if it's not outright trolling the OP just turns up to try to gain confirmation and if they ever return to the thread just argues the toss with anyone who disagrees.
Soundtoys are they now overated? My thinking is...

My dream effects would mix the best parts of Soundtoys, Goodhertz and Fabfilter.

Sonnox are still some of the best top shelf plugs, they retained that class for a long time without adding new plugins all the time.

Soundtoys are overrated IMO. I have a few of their plugins (PhaseMistress, LittlePlate, Sie-Q5, and Tremolator), and know better alternatives for most of those (e.g. Rev-Plate > LittlePlate, Fix Phaser or Phazor > PhaseMistress).
It's tough on such a competitive market though.

No they’re not over-rated. Industry standard probably. Just wish they had resizeable gui’s.
I wonder what happens if I press this button...

Sie-Q5 has become a go to EQ for me, I use it all the time. Nothing really does what it does, certainly not as quickly.chk071 wrote: Sun Mar 20, 2022 11:08 am Soundtoys are overrated IMO. A Siemens EQ... hmm... surely a very colouring EQ with very wide bands (similar to the Pultec)?
With EQs you are more likely to find other candidates that are at least as good (if not often better).
I would say that Soundtoys has the edge in effects. Echoboy, Phase Mistress, Panman etc... there is not so much competition.

I have other EQs, nothing does what Sie-Q does and I'm certainly not going to arbitrarily switch to the competition because of a thread on KVR claiming they're washed up. Like I said a few posts ago, I still use all the old Sonnox plugins on every project.4damind wrote: Sun Mar 20, 2022 3:51 pm A Siemens EQ... hmm... surely a very colouring EQ with very wide bands (similar to the Pultec)?

Nice plugs, they will remain
They are a bit overated 2022 ,.. and thus the default price not so competetive anymore
Some of them being "light classics" by now, but not unique heavyweights like Eventide IMHO
So they should improve their collection or lower the default price I guess
Btw. As for being overrated I come to thing about Overloud before Soundtoys

I personally always felt that the soundtoys plugins we're a bit expensive for what they do (this would be since they were released originally). I guess that would make them over rated in my view. Tons of people love them and use them as their go-to plugins. It's just a matter of opinion. I never bought them so my use has been limited to working in other studios over the years.
I would be willing to bet that if they were to do a major release that added HD modes via oversampling, some new effects algorithms for each processor and such while maintaining full backwards compatibility, that people would go crazy for them again. At this point there is very little that would interest me as I have the same bases covered via other plugins.

I would say overrated, too. I demoed them once, when the toolbox was on sale and they didn't impress me very much, at least not in a way, they made me to buy them. In 2022 for the same amount of money there are better options IMHO.

yea there are so many better choices, if they sold them at a decent price I would buy them but they are so out dated and ask for so much money for plugs that can't compete with other top notch options...they are very good but not alone in the market.
