That’s possible. More likely it’s because the M1 macOS version uses a system wide service for hosting AU so it can translate non native versions of plugins. I believe the Intel version of macOS doesn’t need or have this service.aMUSEd wrote: Wed Mar 16, 2022 8:42 amIt’s is but why just on AS and not Intel too? This is a great feature. I guess similar to Bitwig Studio plugin sandboxing.![]()
On the plus side other DAWs that are piggy backing off of the service can probably do something similar (Studio One, Ableton, FLStudio).
Studio One // Bitwig // Logic Pro // Ableton // Reason // FLStudio // MPC // Force // Maschine

If you haven't noticed, Apple is not big on backwards compatibility and changes (drop) anything in their eco system if they want, because they can. They control the entire line hardware -> software.
It is up to the users to think they use that power to push technology for a better user experience or if they do it for profit maximization. Personally, I'm all for pushing technology forward even if it means some growing pains and road blocks.
Just look back in history for the sh.. Apple took when they dropped the CD/DVD player, when they dropped the Floppy drive, when they switched to USB. Admittently, there were other decisions I wasn't happy about it, but looking at the bigger picture, I don't need an OS that supports backward compatibility with a 20 year old printer.
And there are exceptions. Anybody noticed the driver update for the Unitor MIDI Interface. That device is almost a quarter century old and they still support that.

I'm still getting the problems that arose from the prior update, the same as many complained of on another board, i.e. audio glitches and stuck notes, which seem to become more frequent the longer a project is open for. After about half an hour I have to close and reopen a project for the stuck notes to go away. That's on M1 Big Sur.

I tried .7.2, it was a mess, went back to .6.3. Works great. I wonder if this is the last Logic version I'll use.
Not even going to bother with the latest.

How do you roll back? Can you simply recover the application file via Time Machine? I'm not that familiar with Mac OS still, despite using it for a year or so, and would have guessed there are smaller associated files spread around the OS?Bombadil wrote: Sun Mar 20, 2022 6:11 pm I tried .7.2, it was a mess, went back to .6.3. I just unzip the older version that is stored on an external HDD. I expect there are some new loops and such, but I've never had an issue doing it like that.chagzuki wrote: Sun Mar 20, 2022 6:20 pmHow do you roll back? I renamed 10.7.3 and restored 10.6.3 via time machine. It looks as though it's fine to have both, however I've no idea how system processes to do with App Store updates etc. will be affected. Also, I can't seem to add 10.6.3 to Launchpad alongside the other version.Bombadil wrote: Sun Mar 20, 2022 6:25 pm I just unzip the older version that is stored on an external HDD. Going back to 10.6.3, the glitches are gone and the CPU utilisation is even, whereas there's a weird spike on the last core in 10.7.3 which seems to be related to the poor performance. There's certainly something seriously wrong, and I don't understand how Apple have allowed it to persist for several months. Also, the GUI revisions to align Logic to Big Sur/Monterey/iOS aren't particularly well thought out, 10.6.3 looks better imo.
The whole selling point of the Apple ecosystem is that things just work. It's not a good look when Apple don't fix fundamental problems, and things just don't work.

I saw it on my phone but when I went to download it today, the link is dead. Were you able to download it? my unitor8 MK2 stopped being seen by may mac when i updated to monterey i think. i had a Motu midi interface around so swapped that in and it works great. Would like it if the unitor would start working again. i jumped through every hoop trying to get it to work but no luck.macmuse wrote: Mon Mar 21, 2022 4:42 pmI saw it on my phone but when I went to download it today, the link is dead. Yes but earlier today it said the page cannot be found. Now it just says email the download link, but it just sends you back to the same page. Maybe you’ll have better luck?

Previously was only able to find the v2.5 link which requires the dance to get around not notarized installer.. and then it wouldn't install anyways and said "this computer does not need this driver" .. but the link you posted is for V3 and installs perfectly.
edit: i'm not in the studio.. installed on my laptop so will check when in studio if all is well w/the unitor8 MK2

It must have been a glitch for a while earlier today. It's back now. My 2.5 was working, but only when I'd have Logic reset the MIDI drivers under preferences. Mojave didn't have this problem but Big Sur did. This new driver should fix that, hopefully. And can go forward with the M1 machines, which is great because this still is a good MIDI interface.
