On a more serious note, I've had some message exchange with Martin, and he is still thinking about improving PG-8X - not only about M1 compatibility. At this point, it seems not to be his top priority - hey, life distracts us all the time from all-important synth matters - but yet... some juicy upgrades might be coming sooner or later

The matter is, "Apple" and "other than their own" seldom rhyme.

Anybody using PG-8x in Renoise? The parameter value display (in the LCD-looking text display of PG-8x interface) doesn't update for me in Renoise, it stays fixed on the initial value it shows when first loading the plugin. In my other DAWs, it updates to show the current value of the last touched parameter. Quite useful, so pretty frustrating it's broken in Renoise...anybody else that can confirm this behavior on your end?

He’s been thinking about it for a long time. There are 2 types of people: those who do stuff, and those who think about it.ladybugs wrote: Fri Mar 18, 2022 5:45 pm On a more serious note, I've had some message exchange with Martin, and he is still thinking about improving PG-8X - not only about M1 compatibility. Perhaps Martin should open a crowdfund to finance an M1 Mac, if that’s what’s holding him back. I’d give money to it to move him from being a thinker to a doer.

The dude already made this plugin in the first place and offered it for free. While I'd also love an M1 build, he doesn't owe you, me, or any of us on KVR anything. Neither you nor I know what the guy's got on in his life. It would be nice if it happens, and if he asked for contributions, I'd be happy to contribute. But get out of there with that "thinker versus do-er" crap. That's just rude and arrogant.jamcat wrote: Sun Mar 20, 2022 3:22 pmHe’s been thinking about it for a long time. The second Arturia offers a JX-8P model, they will get my money. Martin is the #1 reason why I will no longer use software from small developers, free or otherwise. They’re just too temperamental and unreliable. It was my mistake to rely on that. That’s why I won’t make that mistake again.
I have projects that can’t move forward because of this. Personally I think it’s rude to leave people hanging while you hem and haw for well over a year and get peoples’ hopes up time after time only to do nothing because you’re paralyzed with fear or indecision or whatever the latest excuse it. He should piss or get off the pot already. Open the source code up and let other people get it done.
Whether or not he charges for it doesn’t alter my circumstances. I would have bought it a long time ago if he was selling it. Maybe that would have ensured that development continued. I just want the software I use to be working. So again, Arturia, come take my money. It’s waiting for you.

I, for one, would pay Martin a bunch of money if it would convince jamcat to be less judgmental and verbally abusive.
I hate signatures too.

That was just rude, arrogant and entitled af. Freeware is freeware, doesn't matter if it comes from one guy or a bigger company. Nobody owes you jack squat with freeware.
(Also, Arturia's version most likely wouldn't sound as accurate/good anyways.

That’s what I would like to do. I will take any JX-8P emulator that works on M1 natively.Erisian wrote: Sun Mar 20, 2022 7:11 pm If things move on and your software doesn't, maybe it's time for you to move on. It's easy when it's free. Doesn't cost a penny in fact.
I don’t care about the cost. I care about having what I need to make my music. That’s why I would gladly pay whoever is willing and able to deliver it.
I’m just tired of more than a year of gaslighting when it comes to this synth being updated.

That may very well be true. But at least it would open on my M1 and I could get back to making music.EvilDragon wrote: Sun Mar 20, 2022 7:02 pm (Also, Arturia's version most likely wouldn't sound as accurate/good anyways.)
It doesn’t matter how accurate it is. It’s still worthless if you can’t use it.

You can buy Roland Cloud Zenology Pro, and the JX8P modeljamcat wrote: Sun Mar 20, 2022 8:08 pmThat may very well be true. Not as good and PG8X, IMO, but it will open in M1, which is what you are asking

Thanks. But I thought the Zenology stuff was sample based. Also, I thought Roland Cloud isn’t native for VST3.fmr wrote: Sun Mar 20, 2022 8:21 pmYou can buy Roland Cloud Zenology Pro, and the JX8P modeljamcat wrote: Sun Mar 20, 2022 8:08 pmThat may very well be true. But definitely worth looking into if I can get my JX-8P Hi Strings back and finish these songs.
