Max device bullshit

Most max for live devices run well on M1 devices, but last year , before I bought my M1 laptop, I bought Patter. Patter is a clever generative music device made using max for live. It is made by Adam Florin.
I told the Ableton developers during beta testing of Ableton 11.1 that patter was broken on M1 computers - they have known about it for about 4 months. They MUST have told developers to fix this because most max devices are working fine on M1 now.
I was told by Ableton that the responsibility for fixing Max devices that don’t run on M1 in live 11.1 is on the developers.
So, if I once again, send them a report that Adam Florin has still not fixed patter , they will (again) pass on to him the responsibility to fix it .
This is offensive because Patter wasn’t free - I paid for it!
Where else in life can you pay for goods or services that subsequently break down and you have no recourse to any refund or other economic justice ?

You made the decision to change to a new operating system based on a new CPU technology so require new software. Why should anyone provide software development to you for free?

I don't think complaining on a public forum in such a way the OP has, would insight a developer to accommodate the wishes he desires. If you buy a product and it works as intended as is at the time you bought it, then you really can't complain if you start moving the goalposts.

Did you try sending a nice email to the dev? I'm guessing that this is on autopilot. His website for the product hasn't been updated since 2018. Looking at his website you can see that it isn't the only thing that he does and this is unlikely to be his main line of work.
To answer your question, in pretty much every line of tech business you will encounter products that stop working because of changes in technology. If you want stability in the music software business, stick to the big players and especially avoid experimental products. My guess is that they provide very little revenue to the dev and unless they are passionate monks living on flavored water, you're going to end up with some abandoned products.

there's several commercial max for live devices not working because a bunch of max externals haven't been recompiled to run on apple silicon.
you can contact the dev of patter at his site. he's also on social media.

i sent him an email asking about patter.. i own it as well.. here's the reply:
Yes, I’ve submitted the update to Ableton and am waiting for it to go live—this week, I hope! I can let you know when it’s ready.

Adam

so, until the pack updates in ableton in your browser then it's not going to work... unless you launch Live in rosetta.
there's no use trying to use it until the update happens.

I bought a pair of levis about 15 years ago and after about 8 years they had worn through at the knees. I took them back to the shop to get my money back, they told me to get lost. The cheek of these people.Fraggle wrote: Tue Mar 22, 2022 1:07 am
