So far, Audiority have only been recommended for their freebies. Definitely check them out and try the demos of their commercial products. For me, they are the most authentic sounding guitar stomp boxes and amps that I've heard. I think they're all solid state models so far - which is not a bad thing, IMO. I love solid state distortion.

Kuassa is also good and highly affordable, though I get the sense that they capture the essence of the amp rather than sounding as authentic as Audiority's offerings. Not a bad thing and definitely a highly subjective opinion.

Kazrog has a good history and is just releasing the new generation of their tech. I've yet to check out the new stuff but the last generation sounded damn good and would feed back very naturally. Very responsive and enjoyable to play.

Special mention of Black Rooster's free amp as well: Cypress TT-15 - Especially if you love the sound of Orange amps.

Experimenting with third party cabinet IRs will also increase the expressiveness of your amp sim.

Got to get back in the game myself after being out of it for many years. I am looking to get Bias maybe ik multimedias amplitude and possibly overlouds THU. I had a line 6 helix LT and took advantage to get helix native but my computer is down so I’m looking at using my vastly inferior backup which has issues and nowhere near the power and not wanting to use native on it since a new laptop is also planned for in the near future. I got helix native on my main computer and not my laptop but I’ve got to rethink while my main computer is getting fixed and that is going in a shop next week if I can find a trustworthy tech. The place I got it from may take forever and says it could be a month to get it looked at so I’m shopping for a decent tech I can trust locally. Issues we all have them so I am considering getting a hardware unit since a headrush mx5 is only $400 now and I won’t need to install a thing on any of my computers with it. I can even use American music supply to get it with special hassle free financing. I’d probably snag a few other items in the process but I think hardware may be an excellent option to consider if the price is right and comparable. Look at what some amp sims cost and you could easily pay $400 and speaking of helix native is $400 for newbies. It has more models than a headrush but as I research quality it seems to compare well at least on all the YouTube videos I’m watching so I’m liking what headrush offers as I research my options while my computer situation plays out. The other cool thing you need to research is which one offers presets through third party vendors. Designing your own sounds could be more difficult to pull off to produce the kind of results you want and so a guy like Glenn Delaune, thiderob, or Marco Fanton or choptunes May be relied upon to sell presets that get your sound to a more desired place. I’ve noticed there are lots of guys selling presets for helix, headrush, fractal, Kemper and boss hardware units and a few have added Overlouds THU to their portfolio of things they design presets for so it may be wise to consider whose preset offerings you like the most and that could impact someone’s decision as well. As a fellow tone addict looking to upgrade my situation I’d encourage you to consider the mx5 as a low cost hardware solution that is able to benefit from free upgrades as they come out with future models to install in the hardware. This also gets you an extra interface in the process. I should also say I’m also considering a new interface from antelope I think it’s called a zen go they are $500 but have a Dsp to provide you processing outside your computer and that unit comes with numerous amp models and fx to use in the Dsp it provides.
