They have to price it high so they still make money when its 84% off in the next sale ;-)

As other have said, MAX in a sale is the way to go (and skip the 0.5 MAX up[dates as well!), individual pricing is a joke (as it is with NI when you can get everything in a Komplete bundle for the cost of 2 or 3 individual products...its designed to be this way...I have Komplete and use about half of it but its still cheaper than buying the things I use, crazy really!)

Personally I play bass (and have a fretless acoustic :-)) so Modo Bass is one of the products in MAX I have never used!
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

I used to upgrade everything I owned and pretty much instantly. Not so much now. I am feeling the cost of inflation. Modo bass is excellent (paid full price for it and was not disappointed) ; the economy isn't. I am being much more selective these days. Modo Bass 2.0 will have to wait.

I think the MODO bass 1 models might all be the same - I haven't seen any reference to "improving" the models, or basses.
so that means we have to pay €149 for the new basses and the MIDI files (which I personally won't use).
I think I'll be waiting for a sale...

I'm sure they were already working on a MODO Bass update and just figured they'd roll M1 support into that. Sucks, but c'est la vie.

For the folks annoyed at IK's pricing strategy: this is what they do for everything. There's no direct upgrades for owners of an existing product, only modestly discounted crossgrades that everyone and their mother is entitled to because any IK product pretty much gets you in. Then, they'll do huge sales and group buys down the road. If you REALLY use MODO Bass on your M1 Mac so often that it's worth it, then upgrade. With JamPoints, you can probably buy it for about $100, which isn't unreasonable. But at some point, there will be a massive group buy or huge sale that will be a much better value, you just need to be willing to wait. If you're turned off by this approach, then stop buying IK stuff, but my gut tells me they keep doing things this way because it works for them.

€149 upgrade for a loyal customer who bought ver.1.0 at full price? They need to take better care of their long-term customer base.

It's not just IK, many companies operate similarly when releasing a new product. PA does the same thing.

If somebody wants the new product on day one, they'll have to pay what it costs at this moment. If somebody is willing to wait a while, they'll most likely be able to pick it up in the future for cheaper.

The person who buys it now will most likely have to pay a higher price than the person who buys it 12 months from now or whatever. And the person who buys it right now will get to use it immediately. How badly does somebody need this plugin right now?

It's not a difficult or new concept to comprehend and it's not shocking or surprising. What is surprising is the fact that anybody would seem to be surprised by it. It's as if these people just started collecting plugins last week.

I don't have an issue with the price, I never do. I'm ok if they price it at $500.00. I wouldn't buy it at that price, but that's ok too. I don't think that the price will change no matter how many posts are written about the price. :hihi:

MODO BASS 2 CS will be free. I’m sure any MODO BASS 1 models you own will be unlocked in it, so it will function as a free M1 native update for existing owners.

There is a mention of new pick and slap algorithms, which I assume would be improvements over the old algorithms.

So I guess the question is, if we install Modo Bass 2 CS, do we lose anything from Modo Bass 1.

I posed that as a question earlier in the thread and got no response. I suspect that will be the case, and IK just isn't saying so more people pay to upgrade, but it's not guaranteed. However, based on past IK releases, I think it's more likely than not MODO Bass CS will open all your MODO Bass instruments at no cost.

I also forgot to mention the upgrade doesn't just give new basses and MIDI files.
In addition to new pick and slap algorithms, it also models fretless capabilities for all basses, not just the new fretless models.

The eternal question...where are the guitars?

We got the drums and the basses which is great but we're still missing the all important piece of the puzzle - the guitars. I cannot play guitar cuz my hands are wrecked from years of carpentry/construction work.

Bring on the MODO GUITAR. Don't release anything else IK just focus on that and I'll be a happy camper.

Well, I'd like them to release M1 native updates for AmpliTube, T-RacKS, and ARC, thanks!

But I'd love MODO GUITAR. For me, it's about being able to write guitar parts on my MacBook when I'm traveling, and to be able to create a visual record of exactly how parts are played, because otherwise I will forget.

Sure, there are sample-based VST instruments that will do the job, but sample-based electric guitars so far have NEVER sounded quite right. There's a canned uncanny valley they've never been able to escape. And who wants to dedicate dozens of GB to guitar libraries on a laptop just for a visual aid/writing tool?

$150 for an “upgrade” price seems like gouging by IKM for MODO Bass 2.0, in my estimation. Shoot! I bought version 1.x a couple of years ago, when it was on sale for $100 ($70 by using some jam points). I’ll patiently do without the new version until there’s a sale for at least half the pre-order “upgrade” price. Even $75 USD for an upgrade is steep.

I bought MODO Drums on sale for $80, six or eight weeks ago. Then . . . MODO Drum 1.5 is ‘offered’ for a $75 upgrade - about two weeks after the “Krazy” MODO Drums sale.
Again, I’ll wait until it’s available on a good sale. The original 7 kits from version 1.x are plenty for me.

What wrankles me is that in order to update the software itself, IKM force the new kits, and their ‘custom shop’ features, onto your system whether you like it or not. I uninstalled their unrequested bits and reinstalled v1.13 instead. The same goes for T-Racks and Amplitube - a PAYING CUSTOMER should be able to choose what gets dumped onto their drive. A customer shouldn’t have to go in and manually delete dozens of unwanted dlls and VST3s after the fact.

IKM has been putting out good quality products over the past 4 or 5 years. The older stuff was nuthin’ to write home about, but as of Amplitube 4, T-Racks 5 and onward, their VIs and FX plugins have all been good stuff. I especially appreciate their newer products with the nifty, scaleable GUIs. Their Hammond organ and Modo Bass VIs are very, very good. Generally, I find MODO Drums to be very good too. In my considered opinion, Superior Drummer 3.x is tops though.

... that's for 8 new basses and over 1,500 MIDI grooves (draggable into your DAW) in the Patterns tab.
The acoustic bass (and fretless in general) should be interesting, but the other new basses?
MIDI grooves OK - but worth €149 for an upgrade price?
Hopefully there will be a sale when it comes out.
I'm sure I paid less than this (€69 or €99?) for my crossgrade price for MODO Bass 1.
Thanks & God Bless,

Peter - IK @ Gearspace:
I checked with the devs, you'll be able to use your MODO Bass 1 basses in the CS version for M1 native functionality. However, the v2 features will be limited and there will be a limited number of patterns of course.

It's not "gouging" as you are under no obligation to purchase anything. Let's be honest here. The MODO BASS 2 upgrade is actually 100% FREE. Whatever you have in MODO BASS 1, you will have in MODO BASS 2 CS, completely free. You will even get the new pick and slap modeling, I presume. And of course native M1 support, if you're on a new Mac.

The upgrade cost is for the 8 new bass guitar models. You will be able to purchase any, all, or none of them as you see fit in the Custom Shop. Or you can get all 8 of them plus the universal fretless capabilities and expanded bass patterns for $150, which is less than $20 per bass model. But the upgrade to version 2 itself is 100% FREE.

That same upgrade model applies to MODO DRUM 1.5 as well.
