oh wow, I didn't know these existed! I ended up with a Soundcraft 12FX, and although I don't regret it at all, I might have ended up w/ the AGO6 if I had known about them. I love yamaha gear and Steinberg drivers are so good that noone ever has to mention them at all.

Zoom is really making some great gear now, aren't they? Maybe it's just my location, but they seemed to come out of nowhere. I had never heard of them, and then all of a sudden like 3 of my friends have stuff by them and it's really, really good stuff.

Zoom was started by a bunch of people who had been working on a new sampler for Korg in the 90s. The sampler never materialsied but Zoom used the technology to release a range of field recorders and samplers.

Cool, I didn't know that. But it makes sense, though -- one of the most excellent pieces that a friend owns is a 24 track recorder. When he demonstrated it I was really impressed. Almost tempted me back into dedicated recording hardware...

What would be a good choice if you do not record but just use the audio interface for VST/AU on a mac?
Do you even need an interface ?
I have an old scarlett 2i2 gen1 and a recent solo 3d gen and would like to replace the old 2i2, when my new mac studio arrives in a monh or two. The mac studio has an hi impedance headhpone out which hopefully will be great for by DT770 headphones.

I need a small unit , and i just saw the presonus audiobox go for ~$80, while the scarlett solo is ~$120. I’m considering also the Arturia minifuse 1.
I had an old firewire presonus (with external power supply) but it was humming a lot and was never able to resolve that issue, so I’m a little worried to go with the presonus (altough with usb-c power, humming should not be a prob anymore).

With the presonus I get a different software bundle than the one I already got with the Scarlett solo.

I am VERY happy with the Motu M2. It's just a sexy lil thing.

As am I. One of the little surprises about this box is the ability to completely silence any RFI/EMI line noise when you plug in any single pole pickup guitars. And not gated or filtered silence. Just guitar as clean as a whistle. It’s really quite amazing.

Probably mentioned a few times, but I'll say Focusrite Scarlett <3

The Steinberg/Yamaha interfaces are always a recommendation (especially for Cubase users). The drivers are stable and the converters are very good, not overpriced either.
I have had a Steinberg UR242 for about 5 years and am very satisfied with it.

*IF* you're on mac, i'd recommend a used older-model apollo twin duo (silverface not black ).. excellent drivers and no latency while tracking. guitarcenter used online is good due to their return policy.

I tried Roland and Focusrite on Windows. Had many problems with their drivers and finally I bought Presonus 1824c, its drivers are great, I can record and mix 30 channels with 64 buffer size, not a single pop/crackle. I had to raise my focusrite to 512 buffer to do this.

Excellent choice :tu:
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

Mine was with defect and I've returned it (bought it in Sept 2020). then I read a lot of reviews that the production/QC is bad and a lot of people had issues with both m2/m4. Hope it has changed since then.

I’ve used a motu M4 with out any issues since they were released.

I'll add another vote for MOTU M2.

Mine has been working flawlessly, even on Linux (though they don't provide drivers for that, it's just class compliant). The one single complaint I've had about it is that my usb port on the back of the interface is a little janky and can cause a restart if bumped, but I don't think I've seen other people with that problem and it's not something I notice almost ever.
