Yes, despite Lennon’s b.s. protest, it is about LSD

I started listening to the Beatles in 1970

How old do I have to be?
I started listening in '62, so that old I guess.

Interesting these two specific and not the most similar things in 'classic rock' for the comparison.
Because specifically these two things connote a very specific gestalt of a snapshot in time, for most of us I'm sure.

So specific and so vividly what it is, in both cases, that having experienced these time bundles to the utmost, there is no desire to chase the dragon as it were. And I have very jaded ears not very like the ears I brought to those.
But also the connotation is knit so tight with the age and stage of development I was at it's chasing the past (not chasing the music) If I felt I was going to hear something new in it, sure, but I squeezed out every drop of it (in another life) really.

The ultimate test is how it sounds when you play it reggae style. As luck would have it Easy Stars All Stars did both in dub.

DSOTM - superb in dub. I actually prefer the original All Stars to their deeper dub version. The songs obviously have a common musicality that can translate into a completely different style. It's actually one of my favourite dub albums and I play it regularly (still even play the original DSOTM occasionally). I don't even smoke the weed any more and it still sounds superb.

Sgt Pepper - crap in dub. Still sounds mostly like playground ditties and they really struggle to dub it up. The musicality simply does not translate to another style. I downloaded it then immediately wiped it after one play. I know even if I started smoking the weed again and got battered, Sgt Pepper in dub would still be a giggle (i.e. laughing at it) rather than an enjoyment.

Point proved beyond any doubt. I thank you.

Vurt can probably confirm this. When you're off your tits - is Sgt Pepper in dub any good? Is DSOTM?

Probably should be tried in another style too - let's say psytrance. Seriously, can you imagine Sgt Pepper revved up to a 4/4 thumper? I can with DSOTM. That is a challenge someone on here should be up to, surely?

Reggae is crap, as is anything played in reggae style or dub. Complete pants, only surpassed in crapness by rap.
