Another oddity with the drum sampler, occasionally it won't grab files I've dragged to a pad. Closing and reopening seems to cure the issue. No further crashes. I will say this 12.0.53 seems to be much more stable than my last couple of go-rounds with 10 and 11.

It's not odd at all. When I said "weird," I meant that it's weird I never noticed this before. What you do is how we did it on hardware back in the day.sQeetz wrote: Fri Mar 25, 2022 10:47 pm Never thought of it being sort of an odd way of composing music![]()

In my case, record the whole part in live, via loop, and then comp as necessary, before flattening. For drums or percussion, I will use the MIDI editor to put down parts in measures, altering measures as needed. Because it's possible to overlay clips so that 2 clips play at once on a single track, I can pop in fills and cymbals as needed.
I won't say I'd never use your method...because heck we sure used to, and as soon as I say something like that, I'll come across the need to do it in a week or less and feel terrible that I lied to you.

What's the advantage of this over for example Cakewalk by Bandlab?

The biggest difference, by far, is that Cakewalk is an abandoned application; not by its users, to be sure, but there's no further development forthcoming. <- I am retracting these statements! And since Apple seems to require a complete rewrite of every plugin with every new product they come out with, I'd recommend against it. <- I am retracting this statement, too!
Waveform is definitely not for everybody: it definitely works differently in terms of where and how you do things from other DAWs, not because it wants to be different, but because it follows an input -> output workflow. I find its ability to route audio, with sends and returns and submixes, a huge asset in terms of creativity, as well as its racks features.
Check out any of the non-Tracktion videos on Youtube for some plain-speaking analysis (I strongly recommend the Lismore Music channel for an unbiased look at what it can do).

Even if I made this joke before and I had my rants about Waveform 9 and 10 being highly unstable (what they really were/are)...Watchful wrote: Sun Mar 27, 2022 4:22 pm If you read Trancit's posts, he has an obsession about Tracktion going back to the Mackie days. but what you are saying isn´t true!
I never used Tracktion when it was Mackie...
I had a license for version 1 but never used it as it wasn´t my cup of tea...
I bought a license for Waveform 9 which wasn´t really useable because of it´s constant crashes...
I demoed Waveform 10 which gave me the same experience as V9...
Of course I ranted about that as I always found it a shame that this DAW with so many great ideas and features was that unstable and I will never touch it again but saying I would have an obsession about Tracktion is simply not true... maybe you are confusing me with someone else

I have a license of Waveform 11 and my biggest regret is that I didn't sell it before 12 came out.
I thought it to be interesting, but it turned out to be useless for the way I work...

Bro, Cakewalk's development is MUCH more active than Waveform and it's Windows only, watcha talkin' 'bout?

It's getting a new release every two months, and some minor bug fixes and minor updates in between.

I retract the comments! I don't know what I was thinking--I am definitely wrong about what I said; thanks for setting me straight on that! Sorry, folks!Giova942 wrote: Sun Mar 27, 2022 7:46 pm

I have this issue only with Waveform, but not with Reaper.Watchful wrote: Tue Mar 22, 2022 8:52 pmThis is a Windows issue, not a Waveform issue. If one is 44.1khz and the other is 48khz, I can't play audio from Youtube when the DAW is open
edit: It's also dependent on your ASIO driver. Some are exclusive, and won't allow multiple sources to access them at the same time.
