Summat new.

This is a reworked and extended version of my entry for this months' FL contest - 'Invent a new genre'.

As I said in the contest, on the basis that there is no music which cannot be improved by a 12 string guitar, then I give you Jangle Jungle - the indie rokk crossed with 90s jungle/drum and bass riddim an' 'ting (if you would...) Ever the optimist..

oh boy... or better oh old man

there are passages that make me pretty jealous. the greatest compliment ever!

especially the conclusion from about 2:00.
the part around 1:26 is not as strong as the rest for me... there could be something more possible imo, especially compared to the other places. Whenever you bring in your harmonious skills, I think it's super good. Reminds me of the best Chemical Brothers tracks.

That little section is more to re-establish the main 'chorus', and keep up the momentum, but I reckon there's a few things I can do in the way of 'fairy dust' to add interest. Lemme have a think...!

Oh man this is so cool! The guitar picking blends so well with the break beats, I'm gonna have to try that. I've always really enjoyed your work and admire your songwriting skills. It's like, I can't tell if you even have a 'wheelhouse' because you manage to capture so many styles without sounding contrived.

I do think you learn a lot if you play with other musicians either jammin' or in bands when you're learning - pick up a lot of tricks to 'wing' things on the hoof, which tend to stick. Helps as well if you actually like the genres you're doing. I (mis) spent a lot of time in my 20s at Leeds West Indian Centre on the Dub/Jungle nights, with the vast majority in the latter room..some appalling dancing, but great times...

Anyway, slightly updated version uploaded. Nowt major, just mixed up a few drum bits and added some bits of effects here and there. Same links.

I'm jealous. I managed to sneak out to a few raves as a teenager but I gather LA raves in the late '90s had a different vibe.

I can relate! I couldn't pin down a specific genre when it comes to my formative musical experiences. Even when we were terrible some of the most fun I've had making music was when I was in a band.

LOL! Right, jungle, the genre for those who can't dance. But, that chilaxinating rock back and forth that took you to somewhere. Ok, maybe you needed some help with that journey, but yeah.
