JerGoetz, your tale of woe has touched my heart. Though I pretend to be poor, in fact I'm a multi-millionaire, and like to do good deeds so I won't roast quite so long in Hades after I die.

Therefore, first thing tomorrow I will be sending you...

Wait for it...

... a brand new pair of replacement cardboard shoe-soles!

No, don't thank me, really -- I don't need any agricultural slurry today. :-)

OK got it. Please note that my only exposure to NIN is via Pat Metheny's Roots of Cooincidence extension of the concept-Pat and the guys did a mind blowing jazz oriented comp that put to test the idea that heavy any load equates dumb (read chord changes over the NIN sound)

Sometimes it rains and the cardboard bottoms of my shoes get soggy. Then I feel sad. But then I think about how the money I'm making from selling my music is keeping my Gram alive and keeping a roof over our heads, and I feel happy again.

P.S. - This means that if you download my songs off Kazaa YOU ARE KILLING MY GRANDMOTHER

that is a hall-of-famer!

Warmonger wrote:Assuming that you actually do make music and not just twiddle around :P what is your goal? I hadn't really thought about this question, so it took me by surprise when my roommate asked me, "What's the point?" I didn't have an answer for him, so I started to think about it.

For me, I think the ultimate goal is to make music that I want to listen to. In that sense, I haven't really succeeded with any of my songs.

I would think that for most people here, the goal isn't to make money or to get fame. I would be surprised if there are too many people who have the same reason as I do. So, why do you make music?
Age-wise, I'm in my late 20's. During my life experiences, I came to the conclusion that most of the best music in my lifetime were from the 1970's & 1980's.

As for the 1990's....well?

To be fair, 90-93 was very interesting. But by the beginning of 1994-96, something went very wrong IMHO.

The music industry & its way of thinking was changing for the worst. And the tragic murder of my favorite rap artist (2pac) didn't help matters any.

As the mission of mainstream hip-hop was going one direction, I went elsewhere. I started to notice that America (CORRECTION: MTV) was acknowledging this "electronica" movement from Europe in general, United Kingdom, and selective parts of America itself (Detriot, Chicago, Miami, Orlando, Atlanta, New York, & Los Angeles). This alone inspire me to freshen up on my Electronic Music History and check out the artists of the past & present who were responsible for this artform (too many genres to begin will!!!).

I also made time to study the history of synthesizers, drum machines, samplers, and effects. I made it my business to understand the differences between analog & digital. And desprite being a two-time university drop-out (non-major 1st time & music major 2nd time), I never stop having a facination for music technology itself.

1999 is the year to remember. It was around this time that I notice these 2 UK imported magazines (Computer Music & Future Music) in my local bookstores. The future was right in front of me.....I could buy a computer as THE IMPORTANT heart of my very first and only bedroom music studio setup. Plus, any instruments that I needed were all available as software.

And the rest is history....almost. :D

The rest reason why do I make music is simple: if I'm in a good mood to listen to some new music, I can just get up and make it my damn self!!! 8)

Never again do I always have to rely on the mainstream music industry to try to pull itself together ....because it will not.

I still like hip-hop here and there. But I love electronic music much more. And I'm ready to do my part in being sure that keyboards synthesizers rule the 21st century just like electric guitars once rule the 20st century.

Keep the electronic dream alive! :) :D :hyper:

Why? Because it's the ONLY thing coming close to sex. Sometimes even rather great sex.
And hell yes, I AM serious about it.

Why do you make music?
Why not?

Otoh Lemmy was supposed to say that anybody who states he wasn't making music to get more pussy was a liar. (I believe that was in a non-exclusive context)

Why do you make music?.

Because if i didn,t i would either be in prison or a rubber room....music is soul food and if my soul is starved for too long i get dangerously close to giving in to the darker side of myself...not a nice guy
