best sequencer for drums?

Sorry to hijack but this is relevant to my needs too. Is there a free standalone app or DAW that even a real drummer (hehe) could use just for simple stuff?

The drummer in my band wants to get into a bit of drum programming as a kind of learning/practicing tool - just sequencing a few patterns and then playing along on headphones. Basic hihat, kick, snare - with BPM and time-signatures.

I suggested phone apps but he's not keen - would prefer something PC-based.

strictly drum programming?

FL Studio. The demo is actually quite generous IIRC and should be enough for learning stuff without having to spend anything at all.

Might be worth looking into Live Intro (comes with Drum Racks) or Bitwig 8 Track (Drum Machine).

For a DAW, maybe MPC Beats. It is free. And you might check out this video to see if it's going to do what you want

I use FL Studio myself and it's incredible for sketching beats fast. I didn't know there was even a free version available. I've got some researching to do. Thanks
