I demoed (Reaper 6.52, Win10).

For me quick browsing is more important than many other features so that's what I did. Some random ideas:

-Ctrl+z didn't seem to work when I loaded a sample by mistake.

-The mousewheel does not work on dropdown menus. This is just toggling on a JUCE setting if my memory serves me well.

-The currently selected pads could be navigated by the arrows + a key modier too. Alternatively/Additionally to have a fixed key binding. This is to enable browsing and loading samples without touching the mouse.

-On the contrary, for a mouse workflow, even though the up, down, left, right arrows work well for navigating the sample browser, the mousewheel could allow navigating the sample browser up and down and the right mouse button to go back one folder. The left for selecting samples and getting into folders.

-Sometimes a Pad has loaded a sample that who knows where on the deepness of the hard disk does it come from, or that it is on a folder remotely located from where you are. If you preview a whole folder by replacing samples on the currently selected pad and you aren't satisfied there is no "easy" way to come back to the original sample. For that a live-preview/non-destructive mode would be great: just browsing by previewing on the currently selected pad.

-Key Binding to focus on each section could be neat (browser, pads, editor, etc). Additionally Ctrl + F for the search checkbox on the browser.

-Probably a stretch or impractical, just a random thought, but having an expanded tree directory view to allow even more brainless browsing, alternatively a mode when you reach the bottom of a folder you jump to the next on the file tree-hierarchy.

IIRC there is a way to locate a loaded sample in the browser. I'm not in my DAW machine but I'll get back to you later.

I sent an email to Patrick (from TAL) to request some way to preview a sample in-kit before actually loading it. I don't know if he will end up implementing, but he said he'd look into it.

Finding the sample is easy. There are two ways to do it. One goes to the sample in the TAL Drum browser and the other opens the folder in a file browser window.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
Surely there must be consensus by now...

Thanks.

While useful, this doesn't improve the sample searching workflow proposed though, as before starting testing other samples one would have to:

-Remember to do this step of looking for the location.
-Leave the pad page.
-Click on the buttons you said.
-Remember the actual sample location on the disk.
-Go back to the folder (and remember the location) where the candidate new samples are loaded.
-Do the sample browsing.
-If not liking any samples, manually restore the original one.

The idea would be to just have a live preview mode, ideally activated with a key binding, activate it and live-browse non-destructively.

Ah, well yes. A non-destructive live preview would be nice.

Im on Ableton and I can't figure out Multi out. The manual doesn't really say anything either. Here is what I do.
I hit pad 1 and map it to output 2. Pad 2 - out 3 and so on.

Then in Ableton I create an audio channel and select Taldrum. I select out 2 but instead of just playing the kick drum, it is is just playing the whole kit again.

To me the multi out is confusing to figure out. I am on the newest beta.

I tried spreading things out in case it supposed to be 3/4 as L and R, but that didn't do anything. What am I missing here?

TAL Drum has 16 stereo outputs. I don't know how Ableton does channels and routing but in Waveform's Rack I see 32 outs (16 L and 16 R) that seem to work when I route things. I set some pads to be on output 2 and they go out through the second output (individual outs 3 and 4) and some on output 3 (outs 5 and 6). I wish I could help you with Ableton specifically, but I've never used it. All I can say is that the outputs work as expected here.

Ok cool, thanks. So 16 stereo outs, thats great. Patrick got back to me as well and I will troubleshoot this. Its probably something silly I was doing. Ableton can be tricky with this stuff.

What I love about this plugin is the sound design, at least for me is pretty much done once I dial in each drum. The lofi effects do so much to the drums that I don't need to really do anything except add some verb/delay to certain sounds and then buss them all together later. I just get the sound I want right away. I do notice that degrading the sounds adds some low end to each drum hit, so I will high pass some of that out later. But thats not a real issue.

I am going to mess with the jitter settings today. That could really be something on hats and snares.

At least the option, some of us(🙋🏾‍♂️) are midi drum pad lunatics and would appreciate the option to expand the pad layout to fit various equipment. Don't know how difficult it would be to implement though.

Yeah I’d like to see 64 pads and also a select/edit all pad button, in addition to the control click option.
