I know how to make the basic gated reverb of putting the gate after the reverb.
But the big question is , which reverbs ( Plate or Hall or Room etc ) work best to be gated for that 80s big gated snare sound , especially like the one in this song:

I use this one for that purpose (got it for much less than that, it's often on sale):

Although you can basically use any reverb with a gate following it as a next thing in the chain, quite simple actually.

ValhallaVintageVerb in Inverse mode is the one I go for.

Forgot to mention that I’m on Mac M1 running Logic in native mode. So reverb plugin must be M1 native compatible

I don't see Inverse as option--is it a different plugin you mean?Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote: Tue Mar 29, 2022 11:45 pm ValhallaVintageVerb in Inverse mode is the one I go for.
Doing nothing is only fun when you have something you are supposed to do.

Sorry, it’s called NonLin. Right plug-in, just called the algorithm the wrong thing.Dirtgrain wrote: Wed Mar 30, 2022 1:45 amI don't see Inverse as option--is it a different plugin you mean?Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote: Tue Mar 29, 2022 11:45 pm ValhallaVintageVerb in Inverse mode is the one I go for.
It’s an inverse verb, RMX16 style. Does the gated Reverb sound and no gate needed. Just play around with the attack size.

ValhallVintageVerb presets > Gated Verb has a bunch. Nonlin is practically cheating, use attack and shape to control timing.
Could also use any M1 convolution reverb and load up IRs from the AMS RMX-16 from Townhouse: https://inhalt.bigcartel.com/product/to ... -responses
Use the non-linear programs, or use the regular reverb impulses and add a sidechained gate to time it perfectly. If you need to embiggen it use a compressor. Honestly any normal reverb will work if you're willing to shape it.

owning myself an M1 Mac mini, I suggest these for gate reverbs :
- Valhalla Ubermod (after appropriate tweaks)
- Tone2 Ultraspace (after a very few tweaks)
- Phonolyth Velvet Machine (right out of the box)
in addition all of these can give you a tempo-synced gate reverb

Korneff Micro Digital Reverberator has some gated reverbs as per the original Alesis models (I use the Midiverb II settings as I used a real one back in the day).

and...
any convolution should do the job easily
in Logic there is
space designer, which has a lot gated presets
and
chromaverb which also has some gated presets
like "80s Golden Gate", or "Collins Gate" (sic), or "Electronic Drum Gate"

A top tip is to find a big reverb IR you like, copy it and cut the tail off to suit so it stops suddenly. Voila - easy gated reverb with no gate.
