No, they will deposit iLok licenses for owned plugins, so you can use them for free, natively, without a subscription. (For the ones that are available as UADx).

Just so you have the facts, before you can write them off as "scummy"...

Apparently currently they are only 17 plugins that this will be done for? and for now (until fall 2022) only on mac.
I just got two of my licenses on ilok (two activation per license)

Interesting. Best case is for owners who have a studio rig tied to hardware, they can now have native versions for free on a laptop (well, MacBook).

Anyone know if you still need registered hardware to buy a plugin? If they waived that, effectively you could just use the native version.

I suspect you will be able to their B-3 organ I think is currently available to purchase that way (I know it works with Luna so what I see may just be the Luna compatible version not the every DAW one yet (https://www.uaudio.com/uad-plugins/uad- ... ll-b3.html))

With several caveats currently though.

1. Only 17 of them are currently available.
2. They require ilok (and you know how that drives some crazy

).
3. Their installer is even worse than ikmm.. it installs everything. you buy one plugin and it installs all is it 300+ of them.
4. Mac only currently.
5. They are traditionally very expensive (with list prices of $200 and up, so when they put them on sale for $99 some people think God has just dropped manna from heaven..)

those are the current caveats I think.

Sorry, in my head I was typing Mac (since I have already downloaded UA Connect on my mac) my fingers typed Windows which is coming Fall 2022.

I am not sure if that is how it works though, it comes with the same downloader, UA Connect doesn't seem to be able to download anything so far it just links my ilok account with uad and I imagine it manages subscriptions.. You still have to use the same bloated installer even if you purchase one...

Maybe the subscription model (not the purchasing of native versions) has its own downloader?

btw, doesn't seem that they even plan currently to allow you to buy native ones without a sub in general..

After reviewing this over and over and over again, it does seem there is a lot of confusion about UADX, UAD2, what you have owned being native without hardware, and whether there is a mandatory Sub

How did you get the licenses? Which plugins were they? Did you have to do UAD connect to authorize them?
