Hi everybody, here's my entry for this round: "Almost 8000" (I know, it's 7999 only ...)
Thank you, Björn, for that great emulation! It's a synth I wanted to own that time...
https://soundcloud.com/nenneb/almost-80 ... -challenge
Again I did it on the mostly unknown Bremmers MultiTrackStudio using
15x FB-7999
buildt in reverb, delay, eq, comp and midi-manipulators
plus Abstract Chamber-reverb and
M-Horse P3 and LoudMax on the master-track

Hope, you like it ... gimme 5 ;-)

I just did a very rough analysis of the top 5 places for the last 5 rounds and got this split in terms of genres/tone:

Oh that's really interesting, thank you for sharing this.

Nowt EDM is a term that is not really well defined. Actually I get the impression that if you get to close to a well defined genre (I'm thinking particularly of Davi-dj's track in January for instance, which for me was one of the best tracks of the month and ended around the half). I'm definitely going to do stats (also just cauz I like doing stats, looks like you do too hahahaha).

Not sure how you made your classification, I would have expected a lot more synth pop / synthwave but you I should do the same as you and see what I get ! Totally agree on doing what you like !
I'm really no expert on the sub-genres of electronic music - that's why it's a really rough guide. Anything that I could dance to and was not clearly another genre I called "EDM" - ha. I love stats and spreadsheets - I'm such a nerd. You should see my analysis of the scoresheets...

Yeah seems like to you The Future Sound of London, Aphex Twin and Autechre are the same as let's say DJ Tiesto, all EDM, which is very far from the truth. Totally different crowds, aesthetics and goals in music making.

I couldn't agree more! Very far from the truth. I really hate all this genre labelling stuff - so my post was not to be taken too seriously. Every song is unique and we should not try to pigeonhole songs. I love songs that are not clearly in a genre. And "EDM" is a silly label really. Nobody should ever try dancing to Autechre :D

Here is a start to differentiating EDM genres:

I'm curious if anyone has anything else basic they go off of.

Post

There seems to be two definitions of "EDM" that are in use around the world:

1/ it's a specific subgenre of electronic/dance

2/ any electronic/dance

I've learned to do an "educated guess" as to which definition somebody means.

Chose to replace my "previous" submission by a pretty generic 4-on-the-floor stomper [...]
LOVE THE WHISTLE!
Thanks, silverpants! :tu:
That sound happend by surprise while I was just playing around with the synth ... and triggered memories of a track with a whistle and french lyrics, that I loved to listen to when I was younger ... but I can neither remember the band nor the title...damn. It's still funny how certain sounds/emotions seem to be branded in ones memories.
