You are talking a lot of development cost. I think if they were going to do that, there will be a free and paid version. They have not said that there won't be a paid version.

Post

No, there won't be a paid version according to them and they said that they want this to be a modern top DAW with all the best features of other DAWs. They also asked people to make feature suggestions.
Plkus they can afford this. So there is no reason to assume that they cut any corners here just because it will be free. Uli Behringer said over and over again, that right from the start his motivation always was to make music gear more affordable. And it shows.

If you are replying to me, I think you missed my point.

Behringer said there would be a free DAW. I don't think they said there would not also be an enhanced paid version. Did they?

This is a pretty common strategy for selling software. So I wouldn't rule it out unless they state they're not doing it.

Here is what they said:
It’s now official. We will be creating our own Music tribe DAW. This is a massive undertaking, which will take at least 18 months and for that purpose we have now assembled a large development team.

Our Music Tribe DAW will also include samples and VST’s plus connections to this party VST’s. Our goal is to include the very best features available, including multiple user interfaces for both recording and DJ.

We would love to develop this together with you and hence encourage you to share your preferred platforms and features so we can consider your input. Our opprtuiniy is that we have no legacy platform to maintain, which will allow us to think „blue sky“ and combine „the best of all worlds“.

Best of all, the DAW will be FREE of charge! Our goal is to empower all musicians to record, mix, edit and publish their music.

As always thank you so much for all your support and loyalty.
So yes, if they only offered a stripped down version for free this would indeed clearly contradict their own announcement.

And no,I didn't miss your point - it was just that it was false and hence I corrected you.

They don't make any claim about not having a paid version with more features.

They've already said some of their new synth VSTs will be free, some paid. So you are making an assumption here. I'm choosing not to assume anything and caution wait until we see what they say.

Post

No, it's true, they didn't say that, however I think you need to learn to read a lot better.

If the weather forecast says something along the lines of "it will be sunny throughout the day without any clouds" it doesn't make sense to say that according to the forecast it may rain because they never said it won't.

Just for you, here is an excerpt of what I quoted above (going by what you wrote here I have a hunch that this might make it a bit easier for you to comprehend what they said):
"We will be creating our own Music tribe DAW[...]Our goal is to include the very best features available[...]Best of all, the DAW will be FREE of charge!"

It's not a weather forecast. It's a statement put out by their marketing / public relations people. LMAO

You should stick to music making.

You're probably stuck to the principle, "Just what costs a lot is also good."
This principle is sometimes true, but it is often wrong.

At the beginning of the noughties, the little flame of "Free Cultural Movement"
flickered: A lot of software came up that was "open source" - or that
could be freely used by anyone after GNU or CC. LINUX in particular
was the pioneer here (though much earlier already). In the music
sector, it was common in the noughties that almost all VST plugins
were free.

The background was that the wallet should no longer be relevant
in order to have access to cultural techniques. According to
Lawrence Lessig, ideas and software should be freely exchangeable.

Today we have a world divided into two: A monetized world in
DAWs and VSTs and a "free world" in DAWs and VSTs. In the
free world, no revenue is generated with the software, i.e. it is not
directly about profit. It's more about indirect effects, for example
by amplifying the DAW world, getting more musicians to deal with
DAWs at all. Because these musicians also need hardware, and
that in turn can be sold.

One thing has to be mentioned here: There are also many
individual developers who develop VSTs that are "free" simply for
fun - out of intrinsic motivation. And some of these free VSTs play
in the highest league.

In summary: The idea that only something that costs something
can be good - or that even costs a lot, stems from a completely
monetized, profit-oriented thinking. Which fortunately is wrong in
some areas.

It's painfully obvious that your linguistic skills are not at all up to the task of having conversations such as these. That was a metaphor. I could post a link to an explanation of what that is, but that would just go way over your head most probably anyway. If one of us should stick to something a little more basic that's clearly you, not me.

Have fun making more of a fool of yourself but I am done trying to communicate with you.
I'd rather seek to teach a a dog how to calculate.

Maybe they will have a 'donate' button :hihi:

That was an analogy (and a poor one, which was my point). You seem confused about the difference between the two, so I'll give you the link

https://prowritingaid.com/analogy-vs-metaphor

But thanks for proving my point that you should probably stick to music production. I think we're done here :tu:
