Because this manager is just a listing of files. And the .dll file isn't there anymore. That has nothing to do how cubase manages the actual plugin for the insert points.

Exactly. And you can use the plugin manager to create several set-ups, so it's good that it doesn't automatically replace versions.
For example, i have a set-up for plugin manager where i have both vst2 and vst3 versions of some plugins (which have no identical plugin ID), because i still need to transfer my presets for those plugins.

I have re-downloaded and installed the latest version of Falcon today and have the problem with the VST3 version in Cubase 12, Windows 11, that there is always a loud crackle at the beginning when switching sounds, under Bitwig 8-Track there is no problem.

How ca you tell which version (VST2 or 3) is loaded? Version number is in bottom right but I can’t find the version type anywhere. Can’t see an “about” tab for example.

If i'm not mistaken the vst3 name is now simply "Falcon" while the vst2 name was "Falcon_vstx64".SHall1000 wrote: Fri Apr 01, 2022 6:18 pm How ca you tell which version (VST2 or 3) is loaded? When you're on Cubase you can check your plugin manager, it should show the vst version nr in the list of plugins.

When you insert a vst3 it has three lines in the drop down list to the right of the name

Falcon is on sale for 30% off, not sure whether to bite and I can't make my mind up based on the demo stuff I'm hearing. Is it worth getting if I already have: Ominsphere, Diva, Repro, Massive X, Avenger, Dune, all the NI stuff, all the TAL stuff, Pigments, Arturia V collection? Does it bring anything special to the table that wouldn't be covered by those synths? Thanks.

It sounds good. UI is rough man.....if you can get past that, have at it. Not worth it if you have Omni.
I think its a huge waste of money if you have Omni, and you will likely suffer buyers remorse

IMO Falcon really shines on a very narrow use case. I think it's only really worth it if you want/need to make ultra complex hybrid patches (synth + samples) and/or you want to make stuff using the IRCAM algos.seangm wrote: Fri Apr 01, 2022 7:16 pm Falcon is on sale for 30% off, not sure whether to bite and I can't make my mind up based on the demo stuff I'm hearing. The UX is pretty bad but, for the use case I described, it's really the only product out there that can pull it off.
I got Falcon and ended up selling it since I just couldn't stand the workflow.
For synth stuff, PhasePlant and Zebra can solve all my needs with a workflow that is really lightyears ahead.
For deep multisampling I'd rather use Kontakt, Halion, or even Soundpaint which allows you to create new patches using the samples from the libraries you buy.
For doing hybrid stuff there are many synths that load samples these days (PhasePlant, Equator, Pigments, Dune, Rapid).
Or to make complex stuff with multiple layers, I could just use multiple plugins running in parallel (like in a Bitwig rack). I'd rather do that than using Falcon, but that's just me. With all its faults as a DAW, Bitwig is really a much better sound design environment than Falcon will ever be.

Also phaseplant has an auto fade/loop sampler. Very useful for long synth samples. Serum can also do this, but you need to use 3rd party sample loop exporter to make sure your samples auto loop without pops in serum.
I would not buy Falcon unless you basically owned nothing, and you wanted a nice sounding plugin. You seem to have alot, better to invest in hardware

I already have Vintage Vault and really like it, especially for all the digital emulations. I just got Falcon today and it’s incredible.
I have so many soft synths and real synths. Plenty I hardly use. I know I’m still in the honeymoon phase with Falcon but It’s pretty rad and I think I’ll get a lot of use from it.

I'm not a fan of UVI much anymore. They still haven't developed a way to map ccs to instruments and save them ,without saving every single patch you decide to use midi CC's with.
That's a huge oversight for anyone who likes actually controlling their software like hardware. Lazy choice from the developers to not implement that. Really sick of all these software companies wanting premium prices for half baked workflows.

Omni has a vast sample library, but I'd rather program Falcon than Omni. In addition Falcon seems to be more optimized in terms of CPU and RAM than many other commercial synths. You can probably load Falcon on each track if you wanted (Zebra is great too). And you can load exactly the modules and effects you want in each patch, there's no bloat. And you can load as many oscillators and modulators as you want.
That being said, I wish they had a demo so you could try it out. It's tough to make purchases without a demo.
