Peter - IK Multimedia wrote: Tue Mar 29, 2022 9:40 pm I don't know if that person was correct. All materials state this is limited time pricing.
Just to clarify - I got this email today:

"Reviewing your inquiry here, I see that one of our representatives relayed the wrong information to you regarding Pre-Order pricing on MODO BASS 2. I am here to provide clarity to the situation. For all of our upcoming releases, we offer introductory/pre-order pricing, at a discounted rate. This price does not last forever and we encourage our users to lock in their price as soon as they can, as the price will increase sometime after the release of MODO BASS 2."

So, Peter is right, and my initial information was wrong.
It sounds like it's going to cost even more if we wait until MODO Bass 2 is released (unless we wait until the next sale)

I just bit the bullet and used some Jampoints and bought the upgrade.
I hope it's worth it.
Peter said it is "limited time pricing" which is correct. But notice he didn't actually say the price will go up when MODO BASS 2 is released.

Also note in the email a few key phrases:
"introductory/pre-order pricing"
"the price will increase sometime after the release"

So this tells us that the "pre-order" pricing will be renamed to "introductory" pricing once MODO BASS 2 is released. It will eventually go up after the introductory period ends, which is typically one to two months after it is released.

So there is in fact time, it's just not going to be forever.

MODO BASS 1.5 has a SLAP MODE. So MODO BASS 2 CS should include it out of the box as well, as it's not a new feature. There is a possibility that the improved SLAP and PICK algorithms won't be unlocked unless you purchase the SE or full version. That would be pretty lame if they did that, but they've done it with the improved CAB section in AmpliTube upgrades twice in the past.

TBH, I'm in a niche position with regard to upgrading to Modo Bass 2:

Less than 2 weeks before IK announced Modo Bass 2, I purchased Modo Bass (1) from one of their approved retailers Thomann.
Often, companies offer a grace period whereby somebody who purchases a product within 2 weeks gets a considerable upgrade discount price to the new version of the product just announced.
After all, there was no way that the customer could have foreseen that the product they just bought would suddenly become inferior / replaced just days after their purchase.

Equally, I am fair, and there is no reason to think that companies must be kind. This is a competitive market and companies need to make money.
Not all companies can afford to generously offer discounts to those who are unlucky, due to bad timing and unforeseen circumstances, and who purchased a version that is replaced by a much better version in a matter of days.

I raised this question with IK Multimedia support and they replied that they won't offer any 'grace period' discount to me.
They will only offer the same pre-sales discount to me which applies currently to all Modo Bass 1 owners amid the current promotional upgrade to Modo Bass 2.
They also said that I should follow this matter up with Thomann instead: I have done that now and I await a reply from Thomann.
However, as I believe that there is no news on the Thomann website about Modo Bass 2 (I just looked) and as they are still currently selling Modo Bass 1 there, it seems unlikely that Thomann will feel the need to honour a grace period caused by IK's news announcement of Modo Bass 2 only days after I bought Modo Bass (1) at Thomann.
After all, it is not Thomann's news announcement or indeed product decision: they are merely selling a product of IK Multimedia at the moment.

Curiously, people who buy Modo Bass 2 will also get a free version of Modo Bass 1, as this is currently on IK Multimedia's own website,
" *From now until release, everyone who purchases MODO BASS 2 full (including crossgrade) or SE will immediately receive a download of MODO BASS 1 of the same version and their MODO BASS 2 version as soon as it becomes available."
https://www.ikmultimedia.com/news/?item_id=12546

So it would appear that despite my purchase of Modo Bass (1) less than 2 weeks before Modo Bass 2 was announced, and indeed my purchases of other IK Multimedia products costing me about £700 during the past decade, that I will not have any grace period in this particular case.
Which is unusual, in my experience, with software companies during the past 18 years of my purchases, but not unheard of.
After all, businesses are under no obligation to be kind to customers.

Ultimately, does Modo Bass (1) fulfill the reason for which I bought it?
Yes it does - and it sounds very good.

But I probably won't be upgrading from my recently-purchased inferior version to the new upgraded version.
The new 1,500+ grooves of Modo Bass 2 are very tempting but not for approx $149 upgrade price of the product which I just bought.
And I respect IK Multimedia's decision not to allow for grace periods, but equally there are other companies out there who I will continue to support, because they support me.

It's disappointing that IK support wouldn't make an exception. They really are the single worst in the industry when it comes to updating existing products and taking care of existing users. But their entire sales model just feels like something out of a 1980s used car dealership.

Never buy IK products at full price. Deep, deep discounts come to those who wait.

is it possible to upgrade to Modo Bass 2 from Modo Bass 1 ?

Well IK had said deep, deep discounts on MODO BASS (and MODO DRUM) in the months leading up to the paid upgrades for both. So it makes sense that they would not offer a free upgrade to people who just bought MODO BASS at blowout prices.

Not to me. They just had a 29 plugins for the price of 1 group buy, this person wasn't in on that for whatever reason [maybe wasn't aware, maybe new to audio, maybe was broke just then], buys just the 1 plugin for full price, then a few days later IK announces a new version. He reaches out and asks if they can offer the very common grace period for that situation and they say no. They can't afford to go a tiny bit above and beyond and give the person an upgrade voucher or something? They just gave the thing away recently and this person paid full price! I'm sorry, it's just bad customer service. They don't owe him anything, but they could do the stand up thing, and gain a customer for life. Instead, now that customer feels understandably burned. A little less likely to give IKMM money in the future.

But yeah, if it makes sense to you, that's your opinion. The above is mine.

No, IK also had MODO Month that started in January, and was extended through March (up until it was cut short and disappeared down the memory hole when MODO DRUM 1.5 was announced.)

I got the 149 upgrade for both Bass and Drums.

It is well worth it if the product is what you really want.

But what I want even more is the guitars (both electric and acoustic).

Hopefully they come someday soon. It's been at least 5 years worth of waiting for me on a personal level. That's a damn long time and I honestly don't know how much longer still. But I like to comfort myself with a pattern. 2016 Basses 2019 Drums 2022 Guitars. So this year wishful thinking? Perhaps. Perhaps not.

Hoping my prayers are answered and the guitars come this year. I think most of us who bought MODO BASS when it first debuted are waiting for the big one that will change everything and render every multi-GB guitar sample library obsolete. Honestly I allergic to samples for anything except drums these days.

Come on IK we know you can do it!

If you want "physically modeled" guitars RIGHT NOW, you could check out Wedge Force Matcha through Plugin Alliance. It's on sale for $29.99 for the next few hours and if you use the promo code MEGA-20-OFF you'll get it for $9.99.

It's not great, but for $10 you can't complain.

I almost got it myself, but it's not yet Apple Silicon native and I only want it to have a small footprint portable guitar VST for my M1 MacBook Pro, just for working out guitar parts while I'm on the road. Maybe I'll get it when it's $9.99 after it goes native if there's still no MODO GUITAR.

I got the upgrade for both as well, were you already on 1.5 for MODO Drum, and if so were you able to access the extra drum kits in MODO Drum? Kinda silly if you have to wait MODO Bass 2 is released, but that may be the way it is.
