What are you looking for in a small space?peterdh wrote: Mon Apr 04, 2022 8:46 am Just curious. Lately I am avoiding the bigger spaces in my reverbs, like the medium and large halls. Too much. Smaller spaces, like rooms and chambers, sound more interesting. Which reverbs do excel in smaller spaces according to you? Software and hardware.
Thanks for your time.
Small spaces are always my test of a good reverb. There are many that sound metallic on smaller rooms settings, or some that will crap out on percussion (transient rich audio).
Are you looking for an intimate/close up feeling or the sound of something playing on one end of a room while the listener is at the other side?
Not limited to this by any means, but I’ve always used Breeze 2 and Aether for close, intimate along with Pro-R and Valhalla Room for general room settings. I don’t know what’s going on with 2caudio now so I can’t recommend them but I’m also not sure what you want from the smaller rooms.

Haven't used it in a long time. Will have a closer look.

Mostly chromatic percussion, acoustic guitar, piano, strings/pads, woodwinds (especially flutes), synth, brass, choir and scat vocals. The whole mix

PhoenixVerb is all you need.
I've got R2 (a cutdown version of Phoenix) and it'll get you there. I just loaded up preset, under Small and Millie's Room. Even with just R2, you have everything from large to small and it's excellent reverb.

Quite literally, when you said '...on a send'. A send is a level (volume) knob, you know (apparently you don't know). The guy's reply to you made sense... you appeared to be asserting that simply lowering the level / volume of the reverb (by sending less) was going to make it sound more like a shorter / roomier / smaller space. Which is of course not true. It will just make whatever reverb he's using quieter. Because less volume.ramseysounds wrote: Mon Apr 04, 2022 2:41 pmwhere do I mention volume? If you have Phoenix verb you should be good. That said, my favorite "felt not heard" ambience reverb is LX480 / LX480 Essentials from Relab, Ambience mode.

indeed Phoenixverb is already mentioned, could be the one, next to SP2016... or Nimbus, the bigger version of Phoenixverb (all are at some point for sale around €10)..peterdh wrote: Mon Apr 04, 2022 3:43 pmMostly chromatic percussion, acoustic guitar, piano, strings/pads, woodwinds (especially flutes), synth, brass, choir and scat vocals. yes, i already wanted to ask, which reverbs do you own. the Melda IR is great, and i tend to forget (...) how an IR reverb can really give a closed feeling, but natural. (mostly i tend abuse IR reverbs...

Another vote for Phoenixverb/Nimbus, if you get in in one of the frequent sales for 10 bucks, it is a great option for short ultra-clean reverbs.
Verberate 2 is also very good, but more expensive (on a plus side, if you ever have problems with it because of OS/DAW updates or whatever, you’ll be in good hands with the developer. Probably not the case with Izotope…)

I think R2 is an expanded version of Phoenixverb? Sorry to be picky.elxsound wrote: Mon Apr 04, 2022 3:55 pm PhoenixVerb is all you need.

No, R2 is a limited version of R4, and PhoenixVerb is a limited version of Nimbus, IIRC.
PhoenixVerb/Nimbus = super clean. R2/R4 = Lexicon style.
I think R2 or R4 would work well with "real" instruments as well.
