i tend also to gravitate to Infinitone, it seems also more feature rich.fairlyclose wrote: Thu Apr 07, 2022 9:02 pm Heard back from Infinitone dev and it handles independent tracks with dynamic morphing etc. He sees that as central to his own practice so is important aspect. Looks the one for me

Hello, Subhraag, founder of Infinitone Music here. The microtonal world is vast, and everybody will have their own preferred way of working. I have curated a set of tools in Infinitone DMT in a certain way that I find creatively inspiring (and many other users are also reporting they find it inspiring!), and so have the folks at OddSound.
There are some overlaps in functionality and also unique features in each. Here are a few things that I think are unique to Infinitone DMT:
My vision for Infinitone DMT is that it is a creative playground. (See Adam Neely playing around with it for the first time! ) It allows you to play and explore with tuning in ways never before possible. The nature of our user interface makes this inviting and possible. Every parameter is fully automate-able, so tuning can become an organic living breathing facet of expression.
Every track can have its own unique tuning as well (just like every musician in an orchestra plays differently). So in one track you could Morph a tuning continually, another you could have chords, another a scale, another a slightly detuned version of the same scale, etc. I mix and match tunings all the time! It's great fun, and natural. OddSound is more geared towards having a single tuning in all tracks of the entire session (we also provide MTS-ESP tuning method as well, so you can do that with Infinitone DMT as well).
Working with larger sets of notes in the past has been very daunting. Not in Infinitone DMT.You can select subsets from master Tunings, containing only the notes you need at one time. Using the Scale Viewer, you can see visual representations of up to 64 Scale subsets at one time, and switch between them in real time.
Our curated presets enable you to get straight to the microtonal gold. Open a preset.... click on one of the 64 individual scale slots.... then play! You are almost guaranteed to find something musical satisfying. No more wandering aimlessly through mysterious dissonant pools of confusing microtones. We give you the good stuff right away. You can not only discover scales, but also chord progressions too!
Customizing your tunings and creating your own is super easy. Click on a note, and drag it wherever you want. Add notes wherever you want.
Literally your imagination is the limit here. If you want to do a Ben Johnston style freestyle just intonation piece, no problem! If you want to focus on 6 notes, and get the absolute most possible out of them, no problem.
Regarding OddSound's software, it is great too! On the technical side of things, they are first rate. They have some technical details that we do not have, and some other features as well, but I won't get into that here. Maybe another OddSound user or the developers can respond. They are first rate developers and have been in the business a long time. So my suggestion is this... get both, haha.

Any questions, just write us on our support page at https://infinitone.com. Or I will try to answer here as well. Infinitone DMT can do many things. If you are wondering about something specific, just ask!

Subhraag, Infinitone Music founder here. What do you find clumsy about it? Happy to help answer any questions. Providing more details about what is confusing will help us with tutorial videos and future development.BertKoor wrote: Tue Apr 05, 2022 6:40 am Both have trial versions. Both seem somewhat clumsy in practice. Both don't state (on the front page) what part of the MIDI protocol needs to be supported by a synth in order to work properly.
I thought doing microtonality was a simple matter of dropping your Scala or TUN file into your weapon of choice (enough synths support it) and you're a happy camper. But what do I know![]()
Regarding scala files, etc. If you know what tuning you want, and you only want one tuning at a time that can work. But are you satisfied in a synth with a single patch, and zero tweak-ability! Or do you want to create our own patch from scratch? Thats were Infinitone Dynamic Micro-Tuning comes into play. Tuning becomes a living breathing indispensable element of creative expression, just like timbre is in the synth world. With Infinitone DMT, you can monophonically retune just about any hardware or software synth in the world, or for polyphony you need an MPE, multi-timbral, or MTS-ESP compatible synth. There are MANY of those out there nowadays.
