Just joined KVR. Hoping to purchase Ableton Live for my Significant Other to get her back into playing piano. Thanks.

A piano would have done the job and saved electricity. Think of the planet.

Grum.

Welcome! :)

Do you have any questions?

Buying her a real piano is actually a much better idea.
A piano is a much better gift and will get you way more sex than some software geared towards EDM producers. Unless this is really more of a gift for YOURSELF, conveniently disguised as a selfless act... 🧐
(Then you'll be giving yourself all the sex you want.)

There is an excess of used pianos for sale so you can pick one up for really cheap.
As in, less than the cost of Ableton Live 11 Standard.

But if you're insisting on going the software route, get Pianoteq instead. No DAW required.
THIS MUSIC HAS BEEN MIXED TO BE PLAYED LOUD SO TURN IT UP

Thank you allofdrab!

Yes. Do you recommend a route for obtaining a free license to Ableton Lite? Perhaps individual(s) that purchased hardware bundled w/ Lite and don't need the DAW?

Thank you for your time.

Thank you jamcat for all your suggestions. :hihi:

I previously purchased a Novation Impulse 61 controller, thats why I am going the software route.

I will definitely look into Pianoteq.

Hmm.. I don't have any recommendations for getting a free Lite license.

I've never used the Lite version, but I think you may need the hardware to register the software (best check the Ableton website). Maybe you can find someone willing to do a license transfer for free, but even then I'm not sure how that works with the Lite version.

You could try KVR's Sell & Buy Forum:

If you have anything you're willing to let go of sometimes folks are willing to trade for stuff.
Can't hurt to make a post and ask.

That's all I got.

Thank you allofdrab, I really appreciate your response!

I ended up getting a Lite license through the purchase of the App "Patterning for iPhone" by Olympia Noise Co. Cost 3.99 USD. Registered w/ Ableton and now have Live 11 Lite Version 11.1.1, 2.6 GB.

Have a wonderful weekend!

No problem. Patterning is a great app too. Nice solution!

With my new sensible head (i.e. sober):
Did you buy the Novation new? If you did and registered it there is a bunch of free stuff on their site - I have Ableton Live Lite and Addictive Keys (a grand piano and a Mark One electric). Nice.

Grum.

Appreciate your reply as well Grum.

Problem is, the transport might be more expensive than Live, even if you get the piano for free. I once tried to do it myself, almost lost my life, since then I leave that to professionals…
Life is more than Live…

For just playing Piano with a VST, you might not want a full DAW. A standalone VST or the free Cantabile version could be enough.
