Aerobics, babe.. lots of aerobics. That, shoulderpads and plenty of coke. It's a commitment but I'm worth it and so are you.ramseysounds wrote: Sun Apr 10, 2022 6:55 pm Your profile says you’re 34. How can you relate to what the 80’s was like?

there is no best, just different sounding ones, for me my favourite is synths that use samples of analog synths and still let you sculpt the sound like you can with any synth, just using samples of analog saw waves etc instead of real analog or digital sawwaves, eg the uvi vintage synth libraries, tracktion retromod, syntronik does it too but isnt as good, theres a free syntronik though

This reminds me of of an answer that Jeremy Clarkson once gave to the question, “what’s the best car?” He said, “[paraphrase] The quality of cars is really good these days. Just choose one that has the features you want that’s in your budget… except for the Smartcar. That thing is crap.”
So, I don’t know what the “Smartcar” of plugins is, but I notice that the general quality of almost all commercial releases is generally pretty good. It’s more about picking an instrument that has a character that you like and has a feature set that you can do something with.

plus, we can have 2...3...a dozen, hundreds of plugins in our arsenal, and one could find that' best' differs for different needs.
i don't get the 'best' idea; lots of bands, artists, movies, plugins i think are great, i don't need to break it down to 'one best'...

In all honesty, I wasn’t really sure what all the hate was about. I mean, I never GASed for one, but the hate it seemed to attract seemed oddly disproportionate to the quality of the demos.foosnark wrote: Wed Nov 18, 2020 9:23 pmI know that people love taking shots at the TW, but at least it's dirt cheap now and okay for some (limited) roles. I kind of want one, just for the perversity factorBut then, I used to own a Red Sound Darkstar, which was "the internet's most reviled synthesizer" until the TW came along...

I feel like when I read posts like this that the author has never watched the Omnisphere tutorial videos, read the amazing manual, or realized that you’re always a right-click away from assigning modulation to almost anything.Chipi wrote: Sun Apr 10, 2022 6:49 pm….Omnisphere can sound the way you want it to sound, the downside is the slow loading of the presets and the amount of clicks you have to do for all its sub-menus, you will spend more time trying to program a sound, than you would use composing a good song, not good.

Youve changed your profile. It said 34 earlier, now it says 54Chipi wrote: Sun Apr 10, 2022 9:01 pm34? in 1988 I was 21 years old, brother, where did you read 34?ramseysounds wrote: Sun Apr 10, 2022 6:55 pm Your profile says you’re 34. How can you relate to what the 80’s was like?![]()

I bought Omnisphere in 2009 when it came out and it was terribly slow and consumed the entire capacity of the computer, impossible not to crash.
Remember it had just been 4 years since youtube and facebook existed to put it in time perspective, if you don't remember.
Just Omnisphere plays version 2, the improvement of the synthesizer has been tremendously slow. I still maintain that it is 'complicated' and 'complex' to program a good sound with it.
However the result could be excellent or terribly disastrous. On the other hand programming sounds in Icarus 2 is simply out of this world! It's just my personal experience, you don't have to agree with anything I say here, peace.

Ran demo of icarus 2 on an intel Macbook -
the UI is locked at a size too big for the screen.
I searched for ways to reduce the UI size.
1) bottom right corner of the UI - to stretch it - something found on Serum and Valhalla plugins and others - not available on Icarus because that part of the screen cannot be lifted into view because the default setting is too big
2) double click the developer logo to open a menu offering UI resizing - something on Zebra and other U-he synths - Not available on icarus 2
3) scour the UI for any menu labelled "settings" and the one labelled such has settings for the colour of the UI but not the size
If a developer can't make resizing the UI easy, then that tells me something about the depth of thought they have put into other elements of their product - ergo - I shan't waste my time anymore ---- I have Serum , which still remains a breathtaking leader in audio quality, workflow and sonic range -- I was just a little curious --- but (in my book) the king of synths still has his crown .

"The Icarus user interface is designed to make patch designing and editing intuitive and fun. All the sound editing parameters are kept on a single page so that you can see the signal flow without getng lost in multiple tabs and pages.
The UI (User Interface) is larger than most sofware synthesizers and resize-able to your preferred size.
Once your patch is built you can switch of the editor view leaving just the basic controls to save
screen real-estate, simply click the Size button inside Icarus’ Main section and select one of the ‘Hide Editor’ options from its menu."
